A few years ago I started season 1. Made it to episode 3, maybe 4, and started something else. Thought the first 3 episodes were ok, but not that great.

Thanks to this board I finally went back to it. I'm early in Season 2 now and liking it a lot.

Thanks movie board. Good stuff and I'm glad I went back to it.

Season 2 is worst by far so you will love it even more in 3 and 4

Yeah it's slow going at first. Never bad, but the first few episodes are clearly a show finding its legs - setting up characters, plot lines, etc.

You'll be glad you stuck it out. It truly is amazing TV. It gets a little over hyped on here, but it's still one of the best shows ever created.

I agree that the first few episodes, and even the first season, are somewhat slow at times, but it's a phenomenal show. A little slowness for character building and the introduction of a great story is OK by me.

It only gets better.

Love me some breaking bad. Saddened that this summer will be the last of it though.

The character development early on was a good thing to really define Walt and the other characters though it did make things a bit slow. I got a little tired of him constantly being in his underwear the first few episodes though.

If I get bored at some point in season 2, I'll stick with it this time, but that is pretty doubtful. The hook is in deep enough it will probably be all I watch until I run out of episodes now.

I didn't think the first couple of episodes were that slow with Crazy 8 and Emilio.

Started faster than The Wire and look how that turned out.

Not that bad, just sorta good but not great. By episode 4, I was still entertained and thinking pretty good, but I wasn't hooked and started something else.

Now, I am pretty drawn in.

Haven't watched the Wire BTW.

I think Breaking Bad is one of those shows that suffers from the Netflix mentality, at least originally. By that I mean I don't think it holds up as well when the episodes are viewed in quick succession. A lot goes on in each episode and, at least at the beginning, most of what is going on is character building, so it's not as gripping as other shows. When viewing 1 ep per week (or even per day), however, I think the viewer gets a better experience.

Season 1 and the first half of 2 were my favorite.

Season 1 was a victim of the writers strike. Clearly the first few episodes of season 2 were going to serve as the ending to season 1.

Hmm..I never thought of it like this, but man that makes perfect sense. Season 1 did kind of end like "wtf..that's it? It's over?" and about 1 or 2 episodes into 2 (I won't post spoilers) there's an ending that seems like it would've been better fit to be a season finale.

Good thinking.

How can you say those sentences back to back? I mean, if you think it's one of the BEST SHOWS EVER CREATED, then how could it get a little overhyped?

And btw to the OP, the last half of season 4 knocked my fricking socks off. I don't know if I've been as spellbound and riveted by a TV show since my first run through LOST, to where I could.not.do.anything.else other than keep watching episode after episode.

I understand the irony and the apparent oxymoron, but I say that because the people on here utilize hyperbole like a butter knife on toast. If you were to read the threads on Breaking Bad, with the few exceptions of those people who attempt to say it's one of the most overrated shows they've ever seen, the Breaking Bad posters act as if this show created greatness, as if this show stands head and shoulders above all other shows ever made. It is a titan among even giants.

So it gets blown out of proportion, but in my opinion it is one of the best shows ever created. It is not better than a dozen or so other shows ever made, but it should be considered among the greats. It is a giant among giants among men.
