Of the 93 players slated to begin the Masters on Thursday, six of them are amateurs. According to PGA Tour players Matt Every and Charlie Beljan, that number is too high.

Masters should have one amateur spot for the U.S. am champ. Give the rest of am spots to more deserving players who actually have a chance
Wow
First off,who are these guys? And secondly, do they not know that the Masters was started by Bobby Jones, who was an amateur his whole career.
Anyone agree with these guys?

Who?
But seriously, who?

No one should agree with them. Being an amateur is much more rewarding than being a pro and for amateurs to participate in Majors, especially the Masters, is the true definition of what golf is and why we play it.
In my mind, he's not playing golf, he's playing a sport. He's not a golfer, he's a professional athlete. He takes away from what the game inherently is. That is absurd he would say that.

Did a little research on the two, Every has been busted for drugs a couple times.
Beljan had a nervous breakdown at the Disney tournament last year. If he can't handle his shite in that tourney, how is he gonna handle it at Augusta?

What kind of drugs?
What kind of breakdown?
Why do I have the feeling these guys will be on a plane Sat. am?

They aren't in the Masters, thus why they're whining. Every doesn't even have a pga tour win.

I'm not sure what's worse...that these two actually believe that or that these two think they're important enough to publicly comment about it.

I love having all the armatures in the majors. The more the better.

It really does separate golf from every other sport in that respect.
Posted on 4/8/13 at 6:42 pm to BRgetthenet
Exactly, and that's exactly how Bobby Jones wanted it.

The Masters is all abouttradition and amateurs have always been a part of of the tournament.
It is an invitational, they can invite anyone they want.
Would either of these 2 clowns have turned down invitation if they had received one as an amateur? Doubt it! So stfu!

@matteverygolf can't even get in with a pgatour win. But 14 year olds are welcome.
That 14 year old would probably beat him.
And the rules state you get invited with a FedEx Cup event win...not a PGA Tour win.

Not correct. Full point FedEx events (not opposite field or fall series) gets you in the Masters with a win.
