re: Alexander's Market Opening Today in Baton Rouge

Your N I've been several times myself and I like the joint. Wine is 10% above Calandros but a decent selection so that is not a big deal and hopefully will evolve into an even better selection.

Beer ok but they say it's going upwards and I believe them.

Produce still... But I am picky on that. Sausage, best around. Meat...meh.

Let's say it's a really nice addition to the area with room to improve. And I really hope it succeeds and I'm sure it will.

Not a wine conny sewer, but wife seems satisfied with the selection and prices. Beer has improved slightly since the first time I've been there.

Good to know about the sausage. Any recommendations?

Went Saturday and went up and down all of the the exceptionally narrow aisles, and walked out without buying anything. I didn't see anything that I couldn't get from my usual Mathernes/Calandros/Fresh Market rotation, and at lower prices. Staff were extremely nice and helpful, store was clean and well lit and laid out (other than the skinny arse spacing), but I would've rather shop at the Rouses in Lafayette as my something different than Alexander's. And I have driven to Murray's Superette several times for my Jamabalya ingredients in contests. Did see the Blue Icon, left it for my hopheads.

I keep hearing how narrows the aisles are. I actually haven't gone down them yet. I try to shop mostly on the periphery.

That's a little out of the way for me.

I like their salad bar, which Fresh Market doesn't have.

Those are all South of the interstate though...

As much as I love Calandro's it's a pain in the arse to get back north of 10 at 5:30.

Still working on my red wine and small batch bourbon diet, although I thought I demonstrated my ability to crawl back in the saddle again at Zapps. I'm making a Spec's Smith Street run next week, so I'll bring back enough for us to do another inventory reduction tasting soon.

The cashiers and baggers need a little training.

Ole girl checking me out picked up a bell pepper and asked me "what is this?" No one had any clue how to ring up a cookie.

Chicken breast were put in the same bag with produce. Two gallons of milk, one half gallon of milk, and one individual bagged cookie were in a single bag (while a single bag of coffee got to ride alone).

They need to work the kinks out, but I like it. Will still shop at Calandro's, Fresh Market, and Whole Foods at times though.

Gand one more thing to complain about. If they would just cut all the grass around the trees and the rest of that piece of property it would look much better.

I noticed that they still haven't cut the rope holding together the palm leaves on the palm trees. They have 2 or 3 giant palms, and all of the leaves are still bound together.

Will NOT shop there again.

j/k
