Why'd you get those parts for an htpc?

Id like to do some gaming.. What am I really missing on mobo that'll hurt me?
If you're asking why I got the CPU cooler, I thought it would be more quiet than the Intel one.
The PSU, because I plan on adding more in the future. More HDD and LINK

Okay time for the pics I promised. Here's a link for the build if anyone is interested.
DoUrden style couch pic:
This light was perfect for working in a computer case:
Getting the cables routed how I like them was probably the hardest part of this:
And the inside :
Now the benchmarks. Never used this program before, just pressed 'run'.
Am I reading that right, that my i5/970 system is comparable to i7/titan systems?
Huge props to ILikeLSUToo for all the help! Couldn't have done it without you!

You could have gotten the g3258 processor and a much cheaper mobo and saved over $200 for the same performance. Could have gotten a used 7970 too and still come out less

Did you not see my first post in this thread?
And I've done a little cable management since those pics were taken.. If I remember, I'll post more pics when I get in from offshore

My brother bought Dragon Age, so I gotta get a card.
I literally installed windows and got called to work. I guess I'll need some help configuring everything when I get back in.

Nothing, it's an overkill motherboard by a lot. It's a common newbie mistake though, you just paid $100+ more for features you'll never use, but it's not a bad board obviously.

Build completed, working on the pictures.
The scariest part was installing the CM EVO cooler and trying to decipher the instructions.
Any up-to-date guides on what to do post-OS install?
After 8.1 was finished, I ran the memory test and everything seemed fine. I downloaded and installed drivers for everything I could think of (inc Mobo, GPU)
Activated MSE and updated, and installed a program (HWiNFO) to see if the temps were okay. CPU and GPU temps seemed fine.
Now I want to make sure everything is running as good as it can (e.g. make sure my memory is running at advertised speed). What should I do next?

Can you critique this combo build? Is there any places where I can obviously trim and save money?

What about wifi capability?
Do I need to add any other kinds of access ports?

I just built the almost the same system with a Nvidia 970 GPU.
Some might suggest a slightly less CPU, or non-unlocked model and to go with the stock cooler?
ILike recommended a slightly cheaper motherboard than I was originally planning. I stole a wireless card from another computer. Maybe you can scavenge a CD drive from another computer to save some cash?

Looks good , while my cable management is better than my first one I'm sure it still drive ILikeLSUToo nuts. The biggest problem I have is my fan cable length, the cooler came with a fan bank that helps, but the cords are just a little too short to run behind the board.

Well I couldn't resist anymore. Got another 2TB black HDD and a 512GB Samsung Pro SSD. My 250 Evo ran out of room with my last ARMA 3 modpack install.

Thanks! I'm embarrassed about how many hours I spent routing cables

Download CPU-Z and look at the memory tab for speed and timings. What's your RAM rated for?

This is almost identical to the build I suggested for you, except you inexplicably switched back to the single-channel, slower, more expensive RAM.
