If that's the case, then conceivably, could Simmons enter the draft in 2 year as well?

He may I have to check the rules but the main factor I believe is the difference in that Simmons goes to American HS and Exum does not.

Correct. Exum graduates this month, he can immediately play pro ball in Australia when he does, obviously if he does that he's going pro so we should have a good idea of his college intentions soon.

Gotcha. I guess that answers my initial question of whether or not he was playing HS ball in the US. Obviously the answer is no.

If Patrick would have stayed at St. Mary do you think Simmons would've committed to them? Basically would Simmons follow Patrick anywhere?

I think that's a question we can't know an answer too. Patrick definitely gave LSU a huge advantage, but a lot of other factors played into Simmons' commitment outside of Patrick.

its interesting with patterson coming on board but if he wanted to commit, he'd be tough to turn away.

With the possibility of snagging Jonah Bolden I don't think Reynolds is a take, plus he's having another in home wit St.Louis tonight I think that's where he ends up.

I would never turn away Bolden but in doing so somebody has to leave or you are almost forcing someone to go pro.

We'll see how it'll shake out. I don't think LSU will take anyone's commitment right now for 2014 (especially since Bolden isn't committing anytime soon). Depending on how the season plays out (guys leaving for NBA or more playing time), we'll see how many players we'll sign.

Agreed. I think this is our only deficiency. Hammink is super young (could have easily reclassified to 2014 as he started summer workouts at 17) and still develop into a good SF.

Edit: Just looked up that Bridgewater, Mickey, and Martin are older than him.

I'm sorry, but if Bolden or Exum want in, than Johnny has to let someone go. Shane is the weakest link.

I think Shane has a chance to develop into a solid player, 6'7 215 is great size for a 3. Bridgewater at 6'4 235, doesn't really have a position.

Bolden won't be making his decision for a long time, and no one thinks Exum will be attending any college. If that happens, we'll have another season to evaluate the scholarships (some guys may voluntarily leave for more playing time, someone declares, etc.)
