One of my labs has a hot spot. What would the OB do¿

Make sure it has a collar on at all times. That is what I would do.

Clip his fur away from the spot and apply Gold Bond. My golden retriever gets them all the time and that's the best cure I've found.

Go to the pet store and get a little bottle of hot spot treatment. It takes care of it fast with no shaving necessary.
