Do you prefer the 20-24 episode format or the 10-12 episode format?

I feel like this is an easy question to answer but I'm curious to hear others' opinions. IMO, all the 20-24 episode format does is promote a bunch of filler episodes and over-stretched story arcs. I think cable has proven time and time again that less is more. More money can go into fewer episodes leading to an increase in production value.

This was just done recently I believe but here's my vote again.

and a finite number of seasons, predetermined before show begins.

tv shows should be like real life. In real life you don't have 10 or 12 new adventures then repeat old adventures for a few weeks until it's time to have new adventures again.

Depends on the type of show. If its a comedy or something where every episode is a self contained story then 20-24 is fine. If its the type of show where each season is one long story then 16 is about the limit. Although 24 did a pretty good job telling its stories with out adding too much filler.

Depends on the show. A sitcom like New Girl is perfect for 20+ episodes a season

10-12. It tends to be more tightly paced.

For an hour long serial, anywhere from 10-16 can work. For a half hour comedy, anywhere from 12-24 can work. For a procedural, it's not as important.

ETA: But it should be known before production starts how many episodes will be done so that the season can be planned accordingly. I hate back-end orders. Screws with the storytelling.

I really like the 10-12 episode format, at least for dramatic shows. I don't like reruns or throw away episodes. Heck, I don't even have a problem with those 12 episode shows breaking their seasons in two, like the Walking Dead and Doctor Who have done the past couple of years. It spreads out the series and allows for a midseason cliffhanger.

My Answer: 10-12 episodes, nothing else is needed. Get over your self-importance issues, you useless sack of shits.

I don't care as long as they quit taking random three week breaks between new episodes during the middle of a season.
