Palmer had pretty good numbers on a bad OAK team last year. Letting him go means giving up a 1st and a 2nd for 2 years out of a guy. What costs more, the draft picks or the 13 million he's owed? Raiders are cleaning house, but I hope this new coach realizes he has about 2 years to make the playoffs or else.

I'm still shocked that they gave up a first and a second for Carson f'n Palmer.

Actually, its the Raiders so that shouldn't shock me at all.

Mike Brown stuck to his guns and actually came out a winner.

We ended up with Dalton, and 2 picks

No doubt that CIN won big in that deal. I think in light of what they gave up, and how he played last year, they should pay him for one more year. But I guess it's time start over. Start Pryor and draft Clowney next year

My family lived next door to Dennis Allen when he was the Saints defensive backs coach. The only thing he said to me in the three years he lived there was when my dog (a harmless little guy) got out and he yelled "get your dog off of my property" in a very hostile way at me.

Ill tell you though, dude was a workhorse. He would be gone from 5 am to 10 pm every weekday, even during the offseason.

I'd actually think he'd be a great backup to Brees.

I'd take him on on the Falcons as well to backup Ryan.

However, a team like Arizona will likely give him a chance to start.

No way he takes a backup gig. The guy can still play fairly well. I'd think Arizona would jump at the chance. He could also start for Minn, Jacksonville, Jets, Bills, Cleveland, Tenn easily...but nobody will be dumb enough to give up anything for him.

Hue Jackson was making a power play with Davis gone. He believed the Raiders had the team to make the Super Bowl - the team was all in that year and when Jason Campbell got hurt, Hue and everyone had already invested everything in this make or break year...so he put all the eggs in the basket with the Raiders sitting at 4-2 and to seize the moment and get Palmer for whatever they asked. He had coached Palmer before at USC and recruited him.

Oh...and if you watched one moment of Kyle Boller (Campbell's backup) you'd realize the Raiders needed to get a QB just to field a team every week that year that wasn't Keystone Cops. Boller was that bad - like he didn't even belong near a Pro field...how he lasted that long in the league holding a clipboard is a testament to how lucky he was to have not gotten playing time and expose he was a fraud.

...and Palmer only looks bad b/c of what the Raiders gave up. He was the one bright spot on the Raiders last year...and he had a lot of picks b/c he was the offense..."go make plays Palmer" - said the coach.

Usatoday has projected the raiders to draft wvu qb as a backup to Palmer. I'm a raiders fan - since the tuck rule it has been painful to watch raiders.

I hear that guy Jamarcus Russell is making a comeback. Maybe they'll give him another shot...

Can't really look at it like that. That's in the past. If you think he isn't worth it now, you let him go without considering what you gave it for him. Otherwise, it's faulty logic.

This attitude with the Raiders is really stupid. The mismanagement of the franchise has been so horrific that 4 years would be much more reasonable. If they keep going through coaching staffs like disposable razors then they are just going to set themselves back further.

A perfect example of this mismanagement was the acquisition of Carson Palmer. He was a solid quartback in the twilight of his career with a horrible injury history. It is comical how bad of a move giving up what they did for him was.

Exactly. And I remember a lot of people gave the Bengals hell for that move. Even from the beginning, it looked like a can't-lose deal.

Disagree. Maybe in a perfect world, but that's like saying you don't worry about where you drafted a guy, only his play. If you have a 1st round pick invested in a guy, he's gonna get more chances. Happens on every team, every year.

At this point, it's the smart play. They'll save a little less than 6 million in cap space and he'll be off the books completely for next year.

The Raiders won't compete with him this year so you might as well see if Pryor can be a competent QB or draft the next shot at getting a QB.

Yeah, and this often bites teams in the arse.
