I work for a land surveying/engineering firm owned by my dad. We get guys that come through and work for us that are deathly afraid of snakes and yet work outdoors surveying for a living. Plus a few of my own encounters with them while out on a job. So I've got quite a few good snake stories. Snakes don't bother me, and I'll let a king snake or grass snake live but kill the others. I know guys, and guys that work for us, that believe the only good snake is a dead snake. Black or green, doesn't matter they all deserve to die.

Anyway the best story i got comes from a guy who started working for us a few years back when he came over from another firm dad bought out. Lets call him Fred. Back when Fred worked at that old firm, he was out on a job that was heavily wooded. It was him, another guy(let's call him Joe), and the owner of the company. They were walking through some dense underbrush to get to a property coner going single file, with the owner leading, then Joe, then Fred at the rear. They came to some low hanging limbs where they were gonna have to duck under to pass underneath. Well the owner went underneath first, then Joe, then Fred was about to go under when he saw a little grass snake hanging from one of the low hanging limbs. Well Fred knew that Joe was deathly afraid of snakes. So he picked up the grass snake and went on under the limbs. He snuck up behind Joe and slipped the grass snake onto his shoulders. Well Joe was wearing a button up shirt tucked in and a surveying vest. The snake proceeded to slither down the back of his shirt. Fred said it took Joe a few seconds to realize something was amiss. But when he realized something was, he came unglued. Started clawing at his shirt and vest. Grabbed his shirt and ripped it off, tearing all the buttons off. Threw the shirt and vest to the ground and ran off screaming hell bent towards their truck. Didn't pay any mind to the underbrush, just went straight threw. Well Fred is dying laughing and the owner don't know what's going on. Fred finally tells the owner what he did and the owner said he thought Joe had been possessed. So they head back towards the truck and find Joe inside with the doors locked. When Joe sees them he rolls the window down a inch and starts cussing Fred. All the while refusing to get out of the truck and the owner telling Fred that Joe is gonna be useless to work with the rest of the day.

What ya got?

Not mine, but this lady has a pretty good one now.

From the OT:

quote:

BOWIE COUNTY, TX (KSLA) - Authorities believe a homeowner's response to finding a snake in her yard may have led to the fire that destroyed her house Wednesday.

The fire sparked at a home in Bowie County, TX just before 7 p.m.

"While cleaning up, she saw snake, threw gasoline on the snake, lit the snake on fire," said Deputy Randall Baggett with the Bowie County Sheriff's Office. "The snake went into the brush pile and the brush pile caught the home on fire."

Despite the efforts of several fire departments that responded to the scene, the flames completely engulfed the home. It is a complete loss. A neighboring home was also damaged on one side.

The fire remains under investigation.

There has been no word from officials on whether charges will be filed.

I had a rattlesnake stretched out across road at my old lease in Port Allen. Ran over him and it appeared I had both ends under the tires with his tail barely sticking out. I went to whack his rattlers off about the same time his head appeared on side of tire. I almost jumped flat footed into the back of the pickup. 14 rattles

Many moons ago we lived in Houma. It had been raining a lot and the St Aug grass was feelin it. I had a push mower and no bagger. So, when the grass is tall, I would play Nascar and make left turns only. This left rows of grass that needed to be raked. My method was to start at one end and rake til it got heavy, and then go to the other end, and work back to the pile. As I made my turn to start at the other end, My eye caught a coiled rattlesnake, that I would have stepped on with one move backwards step. It wasn't a big one, bout 30". It didn't rattle then, nor after I chopped it's head off. I was amazed that it had moved there after I had cut the grass, no more than 10 minutes.

When I was about 14, I was walking a ditch bank shooting snakes and turtles in Concordia Parish. I got struck by a snake in the leg, I just about crapped myself. The snake had the largest bullfrog stuck in his mouth and was still trying to choke it down when I shot it....

I trapped a rattle snake under my tire in New Mexico last year and filmed it. I parked the driver front tire on it's head. Filmed it rattling away. Took out my BenchMade and hacked off it's rattles.

You don't like shooting snakes?

That's a great American pastime.

Was dove hunting off Burbank before they put in the subdivisions and soccer fields :( Anyway they had cut the corn but there was a little patch (about 6x6) of it in the middle of the field – just right to hide in with my dog. So off we go, it was dry and never really thought much about snakes – I got in the patch of corn – stomped down the ctr so I could shoot and settled in on my 5 gallon bucket. Dog was sitting beside me – after a few minutes I catch some movement and see a f’n cottonmouth leaving “my” blind – between me shaking and it being 4’ away I missed w 1st shot but the 2nd separated its head from the rest of it. It was a good 5’ and tick bruh – damn dog ran around figuring there was something to retrieve. Scared me to death – I think I had a cold one to calm down. Never saw it until it started to leave
Now that I am in the great white north there are no GDCK to deal w/ - all the snakes are non venomous

Not my story but it happened at our camp. Guy driving down the road came upon this.....shortly there after both the rabbit and the snake were deceased.

Shot a rattlesnake off a road at night. As I was tip toeing through the woods to get my a-hole friend threw a fricking leather glove on my back as I was bending down to pick it up.

I have never cursed a human being so low in my life.

Killed a five foot rattler while turkey hunting several years ago. I HATE ALL SNAKES. Friend of a friend played with the snake for hours. It kept moving (nerves I guess)for hours and it fascinated him. He kept following me around at the camp while holding the snake. I told him numerous times to keep that fricking snake away from me. (We were all drinking) I finally had had enough. I walked to my truck, grabbed my pistol and put it to his forehead. Needless to say, his fun was over
