I wondered quite a bit lately why some people want to keep the old and poor from owning guns.

I took Hunter's Safety Course in 7th grade. It was a part of our curriculum

Thats interesting. I had to take hunter's safety but it was for a lifetime hunting license, not through school.

There seems to be a very muddled objective to this legislation. Is this supposed to promote the safe handling of guns or is this for gun-related crime prevention?

Would you have to take a course that is weapon specific? Concealed handgun course is only about handguns so if one were to want to buy a rifle but only took a proficiency course in handguns what happens then... Bull shite legislation that is only aimed at making it harder for law abiding citizens to use their 2nd amendment rights.

re: Gun safety before gun purchase?

No mass killings were done by people who didn't know anything about guns or how to operate them safely.

This is, literally, useless and another expense on the state. My issue with it is not that it is an "infringement", necessarily, but that it accomplishes nothing and adds red tape.

Here is a link to the actual bill
HB 141

Seems anyone that has had training for law enforcement, completed a hunter safety course or has a concealed handgun permit is good to go. This may not be as bad as i thought as every hunter in the state will be able to buy without any extra class but all those inner city people that have never hunted in their life would need training... This bill may just be racist

Gun safety should be taught in schools, with range experience done as an elective for credit.

This should be done independently away from school. Just imagine the first time some dumb arse kid turned on a teacher or bully.

Workers in gun stores should explain basic gun safety to customers before they sell to them. That would be sufficient for me.

That's why I said range.

Have NRA certified trainers at school with weapons without firing pins, or disabled, for hands on teaching. Have ranges partner with schools for range experience, that students can earn credit for as an elective. The gun industry should be fully behind this, as it would be a great way to introduce every single citizen as potential clients down the road, and it would take curiosity away from kids about firearms. They'd learn to handle them safely and without fear, likely resulting in less accidental shootings.

Why do you think the NRA supports gun safety in schools?

Manufacturers should be as well. As should hunters and any other shooting sport. Introducing more people to the rights they have, will only strengthen those rights.

When I was being homeschooled, we were under a private school "umbrella" and they required electives. My parents included firearms training as an elective

Ghetto gun safety:

Place the firearm in your dominant hand. Now turn the hand sideways at the wrist so that the side of the firearm is parallel to the ground. Depress the trigger with your forefinger on that dominant hand and simulatenously yell racial epithets, slang, curse words or colloquialisms at the proposed target.
