I wouldn't look at it like this. The way Gordon's been playing, you could play Gordon in the First quarter and McLemore in the next 3 quarters and have a pretty complete SG position. Also, getting McLemore gives you flexibility in trading Gordon. You don't have to look to get an SG back, maybe you're happy getting something like Luol Deng and a pick.

Ya, i'm generally on board with BPA, but we already have Rivers. Wouldn't a third SG be overkill? Not to mention, Eric Gordon would definitely have his feelings hurt. We'd almost be forced to trade him, imo. If that's the plan anyway, it makes sense. Otherwise, I don't know.

My top pick is still Shabazz, anyway. He fits a need as well, so it's perfect if he falls to us.

no matter what position they get, it's depth. and that's what the pelicans need more than anything...a bench.

That's how I would see it, except forced implies lack of leverage. Between the good cap situation and McLemore being a rookie, I don't think the team would feel "forced" to trade Gordon until the next season.

Man, people are crazy if they think we'd pass on McLemore because of Eric Gordon.

we're not gonna get the #1 pick in all likelihood, so it probably doesn't matter.

it's a real issue though if the team still has Gordon in its long-term plans.

Gordon probably won't be easy to trade, and Mclemore is no sure thing. If they like Gordon as a "cornerstone", they're not gonna trade him for shitty value for an unproven rookie/cause a riff with Gordon. JMO

I hope they do get Mclemore and trade Gordon, btw.

I think people are crazy if they think Gordon and his max contract wouldn't be under consideration in this scenario. Mclemore isn't even a consensus #1 pick. Who knows if the Hornets even want him over other guys?

chad ford's simulator seems to believe we'd take smart with the #1, #2 or #3 pick and when he is gone it has us taking otto then shabazz. which is pretty much in line with what I think would happen

1. Rivers is being developed as a 1
2. Rivers has not done enough to secure the #2 SG spot

Shabazz is the guy i want the least, but wouldn't be upset if they get him at 5 or 6.

They really need to get another pick- late first or early second. A guy like Ezeli or a wing shooter would be great and save some money they can spend elsewhere.

Posted this in the stickied thread, too:

From the Chad Ford Lottery Machine Thread, I ran the simulator a bunch of times and was able to see how Ford ranked most of the top players for the Hornets/Pelicans' needs:

Smart
Len
McLemore

Porter

Shabazz

Oladipo

Anthony Bennett

Basically, Noel falls into one of the gaps above, but I haven't been able to hit one that clarifies where he falls.

The problem with this is Eric's value is at an all time low and until he shows he can play a full season without restrictions, we aren't going to get anything that will put us over the hump. Best case scenario for me is having him improve his conditioning and be 100% next year, draft Porter, and pull off a sign and trade for Pekovic. You're talking about a playoff team right away, assuming injuries don't play a factor.

Gordon probably needs to get back to 100% and stay there until the trade deadline to get decent value for him. So the question is if you believe he'll get back to 100% would Demps still trade him. If Yes draft McLemore if he's BPA.

Yeah, without knowing Demps' intentions, it's all guesses.

I like Marcus Smart's potential a whole lot. I just don't know if he'll be Russell Westbrook or an inefficient chunker

Marcus Smart reminds me of another Marcus... Banks.
