Well I can't tell you about chip performance for VM but for gaming you can save some money and still get a great deal on the 3570k from microcenter or go AMD and get the 8350. They also do great bundle deals with mobos

Gaming is the main factor.
Thanks! I will check those out. Any of the form factors somewhat future proof for a few years?

That is a pretty awesome price.

They don't discount amd as much but amd is already cheaper. I don't know about future proof but I would say probably about as much as anything ever is these days. Those are top of the line right now.

If I were you, I would work on upgrading and then get the monitor last.

CPU/mobo first you think?
Posted on 3/14/13 at 4:37 pm to Mr Gardoki
definitely. If he has plans to change processor and mobo that should take priority over getting to 1440. A mobo swap will be a complete reinstall of OS. May as well get that out of the way now. Coyote was telling me that the 700 series of gpus should be on the way in the late summer or early fall anyway. By the time he changes processor, mobo, and gets a new monitor he should have a good idea what gpu to get for that new monitor.

Lmao
It actually does, you can tell something is wrong. Some games loud up at random 1080 after updates on my 1440. So for a little u are like, wtf does it look different.. Then you check settings... 1080 of 2010 is displayed.

Yea 7xx series GK114 points at Late Q3 to early Q4.

My monitor died. Sort of forcing my hand to do something now...
Posted on 3/15/13 at 7:19 am to flyAU
Well that decision just got easier
Posted on 3/15/13 at 4:38 pm to Mr Gardoki
so monitor is first purchase for obvious reasons.
my 5750 has been fine for me but does not have dvi-d which the lower price 1440 needs.
wtf should my plan of attack be?
i would be fine with the 5750 for now if i can make it work

The monitor doesn't have hdmi?
Posted on 3/15/13 at 4:52 pm to Mr Gardoki
not on the monoprice one i was looking at or the korean ones.
Posted on 3/15/13 at 5:27 pm to Mr Gardoki
HDMI doesn't support 1440p, but I'm not 100% sure
Posted on 3/15/13 at 5:52 pm to bluebarracuda
I don't think it does either. Do they may an adapter so you can watch lower resolution. It may end up being a package deal, get a gpu and monitor.
Posted on 3/15/13 at 5:55 pm to flyAU
can you hook up to a HDTV you have lying around until you can afford to get a new gpu and the 1440? Either that or buy a 1080 monitor and put off the 1440 upgrades until after you've done the CPU and mobo.
Posted on 3/15/13 at 6:10 pm to puffulufogous
Are you 100% sure the monitor is dead and not something else?
Eta: I researched it and hdmi with Ethernet support Is capable of 1440.

Check and see if they have a dvi-d to hdmi converter or anything.
