This is just my opinion but if your not Catholic you don't have the right to question/criticize the new pope. You don't know what Catholic life is like and the challenges faced in the world right now by us and this new pope

re: I'm not Catholic but have a question

I'm trying to figure out how I criticized in my OP. I'm interested in this topic and I asked a question, which was answered - not all Jesuits are Marxists.

The guy seems to be one that we all can look up to. Hopefully the Catholic community can rally around him. The folks at my daughter's Catholic school seemed happy.

I'll be happy to answer any questions you have on Presbyterianism.

He is very holy and charasmatic. And most importantly, he is humble. He has a peace of the Holy Spirit around him. For a priest on CNN to call him a Saint is a big deal. He may be a Saint one day.

He has one lung. Whatever time he is Pope will be cherished.

Thanks for your kind words in respect of the Pope and catholicisim. Why do presbyterians use grape juice at communion and why not every Sunday?

re: I'm not Catholic but have a question

Not all Presbyterians do the Baptist grape juice thing. Its up to the individual church. We use wine but only take communion on the first Sunday of the month. There is a church in a neighboring city that uses grape juice but takes every Sunday.

Presbys are mostly (or they should be) serious about communion. We take cues from Catholicism on the serious spiritual aspects of it. I've been in a Southern Baptist church where mommas are giving their 5 year olds communion like its snack time. We have the whole first communion/communicants class thing for 12-13 year olds and make sure they know that its a serious matter, but we believe its symbolic, not in transubstantiation, but our Reformation friends the Lutherans still believe it is the body and the blood.

re: I'm not Catholic but have a question

I was at a Ukrainian Orthodox Mass and someone snuck me communion to me in my pew. That was weird. Also when they confirm or baptize the cut a piece of your hair. And NO WOMAN is allowed back in what I would call the sacristy. I haven't said that word in years.

I believe true faith is not religion but do unto others and humility.

What is wrong with being a Liberal Jesuit?

I doubt you have the same idea of liberal as they do. On the same hand, do you think Jesus would be a Wall Street Corporatist today

I think if Jesus were around he would tell us to live within our means and share what we have with others. Yea, people are so busy being righteous about everything except what Christ actually taught us. Caring for those less fortunate than us sounds more liberal than anything. St. Francis of Assisi left all his wealth to fulfill the prophecy of rebuilding Jesus's church. They formed a new order and devoted their lives to the poor. When he chose the name Francis my eyes watered because this is going to be a Pope of great consequence. He's going to rebuild our church.

I'm not enthused

You should be. He demonstrated humility when he without precedent asked for the church to pray for him. Also, from his blessing and today's events he seems to have an ability to connect with masses without appearing arrogant, and he has a good sense of humor.

I am happy with the choice and believe in my heart that this man was preordained by God for just this time in the Catholic church.

Please spare the nonconstructive criticism.

Why sneak it? If you feel right to take the host in their confession you take it, if you feel it is wrong why would you want to take it? The latter seems very disrespectful IMHO,

Social Justice =/= the golden rule. Its also directly the opposite of what Jesus was teaching about giving freely.

amen! I'm sick of the liberal "christians" throwing out the gospel in favor of social justice. How about we teach personal holiness and obedience to Christ. If people learn that we will have no need to teach social justice because the church will be living out Christ's commands and the poor and sick and widdowed will be taken care of.

The church's business is to see souls being saved, not mouths being fed. If souls are saved, they will natrually make sure mouths are fed

Seems like it is up to the church to determine what its business is.

YEs, but the Jesuits apparently hate him. If the one thing this pontificate does is reform the Jesuits, we'll be talking about Pope Francis the Great.

Yes, but since his seminary days he's been anti-lib theo. Which is why the Jesuits hate him.

Note: Do not confuse liberation theology with Comunione e Liberazione. Pope Francis was involved with the latter, and that's a very good thing.

Do you mean behind the iconostasis?

ETA: In sum, please GFY troll. I am 99.99999999% sure that you aren't even Catholic.

Liberal Jesuits are the ones who covered the IHS when Obama spoke at Georgetown. Liberal Jesuits are the ones who snuck the homos into the seminaries during the 60s/70s. Liberal Jesuits are the ones who popularized clown masses and the like. Liberal Jesuits are what have turned Catholic universities into theological jokes.

Calm down. For the Love of God. Chill. Everything I said was 100% true my husband is 100% Ukrainian and I saw all I described in a UO Church in PA as a matter of a fact.

Your husband is Ukrainian and you didn't know about an iconostasis? Your husband is Ukrainian and "snuck" you the Eucharist? They throw it in your mouth with a spoon. And no Orthodox liturgy that I've seen has ever included a haircut.

quote:

And I am Roman Catholic

You just proved that you aren't by using that phrase. "Roman Catholic" is a pejorative created by the Anglicans. If you are a Catholic, you are a Catholic. You may belong to the Latin Church, which is one of 23 sui iuris Churches in the Catholic Church (which contains the Ukrainian Catholic Church, btw), but you are NOT a "Roman Catholic."

And weren't you the same one going on about the "St. Malachy prophecy"?

You sound as though you know a lot about this. Is there a link?

Liberal Jesuits are the ones who popularized clown masses and the like

Is that a mass that's different than today?

Are you a Jesuit?
