I just think this a stretch of a story.
How? Was there anything in the story not accurate?

Plus, you have to remember it's in Dig.

No one ever asks where are all the white kids in basketball? It's a fair question isn't it? Also one could ask why is the black population so disproportionately represented in football? 75% or more of lsu's football players are black in case no ones noticed.

Wasn't it that he didn't get along with Mainieri and, at the time, he didn't think Spencer Ware, his HS teammate, was going to make it so he bailed?

To be honest, I couldn't finish the whole thing. I just don't like any types of media playing the race card when it's not necessary. I just don't think this is necessary because the launching point of the story is that LSU doesn't have any black players this year.

I honestly dont recall, but I just noticed he's their DH, and is a lefty. Not sure who he would start over here, maybe he would start over Tyler Moore and apparently can hit left handed pitching if he's the permanent DH.

Then you do an article on it. If you feel this is an under evaluated area, then evaluate it. Just because no one has done an article on the lack of whites in basketball does not mean that this article is invalid.

Was supposed to be the RF of the future. Ironically, outfield depth is our strong suit this season, but you can always use more bats like his. Oh well, FSU will still choke.

If black baseball players were plentiful, the SWAC Schools wouldn't have white players.

A big reason is the same I gave for no blacks in baseball. The white kids don't play youth basketball anymore. The explosing of "travel baseball" has killed youth basketball for the white kids. I have kids at a young age, and there are way too many white families sucked into paying thousands of dollars YEAR AROUND instead of lettin the kids play other sports.

Every athletic white kid now is a superstar baseball player. At least in their parents eyes.

I didn't read the article. Did it touch on Roger Cador recruiting local white kids because of the dearth of black talent available? Or Mississippi Valley St's coach doing the same thing? Or the old coach at Bethune Cookman who is now at either Alabama St or Alabama A&M recruiting the island of Puerto Rico almost exclusively?

If the SWAC schools can't even fill their rosters with the amount of black talent available, why should LSU be expected to have more than the average college baseball team?

Right. This article is invalid because it asks a question that's suggestive of some ulterior motive, when the answer is simple and not hidden.

There are very few black college baseball players because there are very few black youth and high school baseball players. Any cursory look at youth leagues tells this tale.

A far more interesting article could have been how the lack of black players in youth ball is hurting the ability of colleges to recruit quality black baseball players. Or even better, why so few young black athletes pick up baseball at a young age.

I didn't see that in the article at all. I thought the writer fairly reported the reasons why blacks are drawn to playing baseball on the Division I level.

Neither did the OP. Your posts are thoughtful, you should give it a read when you get a chance.

I was expecting an article attacking LSU baseball, and that's not what I found when I opened the link.

I really did not get this. I think you are looking very hard for ways to make this true, but it just isn't there.

This is part of the story, but not the sole factor. The article does a good job of covering several of the other contributing factors
