Who thinks Charles Brown is good enough?

To start this year, I kinda think we could be okay given our system.

I think he could be a quality tackle and groomed Into a good starter however I think he is injured too much

If he stays healthy, then he could probably be an upgrade. Very athletic with good feet and strength. He finally came around last year at RT when Streif went down, but like always, he got injured. Definitely need to bring in a veteran.

I do but I want some competition pushing him to make him better.

Seems like anyone we plug in at tackle is a pro bowler

He has the talent to easily be another bushrod or slightly better, but I expect him to be a little worse. If bushrod was average then brown will be slightly below average. His deficiencies would be mostly masked by play calling (te on his side of the line) and Brees' ability to move in the pocket.

I personally think we need two OT's, maybe a free agent and a draft pick. Competition at each spot and some quality back up help is needed. Our poor guys were abused last year and Drew ran for his life.
But WTF do I know, in CSP I trust.

If Brown starts the first game, we are in trouble. We will definitely sign an experienced left tackle shortly.

We weren't in trouble when he started before

From what I've seen i wouldn't want him to be option #1 at LT.
I trust the FO has a plan. A very fine plan.

I don't think it makes a flying shite who we put over there they will be fine. The way our line is built its the middle 3 that matter not the tackles. I can remember when J.Brown left everybody was freaking out because Bushrod was gonna start and they were sure he would suck. Brown will be just fine over there. Pro Bowl in the next 3 years if he starts.

I think you guys are underestimating Marcel Jones, 7th rounder last draft. He will push to be a quality backup and would step in if needed. He probably isn't ready to start, but could push the guy in front of him ( pun intended ).

I thought he was our worst lineman last year. Everytime he got in the game, he seemed to allow pressure or it was his man tackling the RB.
Even that 3rd string scrub allowed less pressure/disruption than Brown did.
Don't fall into the Tennant trap of believing a guy just cuz he had the measurables for the position and/or was drafted relatively high. I'll take UDFA producers like DLP or Eric Olsen over the drafted "can't-put-it-together" Tennant's & Brown's any day of the week.
Point is, Brown is not the answer.

I think it's easy to look at it that way and then end up in deep shite.

This. Brown has shown to be more then capable even in limited playing time though. It could be argued that he was/is the most talented OT on the roster but its obvious the cons against him are inexperience & that has been injury prone.
There definitely needs to be some competition brought in to back up Brown if the team plans to give Brown a chance to takeover the starting position just because no ones knows if he can make it through a season without injury.
The fans who are in doom & gloom mode if the organization plans to give Brown to win the starting role obviously hasn't watched Brown closely enough when he has been on the field. He's very light on his feet & packs a physical "punch" when engaging defense lineman.
Last preseason against the Patriots, Bushrod was getting his arse handed to him by Chandler Jones. Jones ended up having a solid rookie season & shows to have a bright future. After Bushrod was pulled late in the first quarter though, Brown put an end to Jones pressuring the quarterback. This probably went unnoticed because it was "only a preseason game" but it stuck with me because it was rather impressive. It wasn't just that preseason game though. Brown was really had a good game against the Eagles this past season too.

Besides the Eagles game, Brown played well last year. I'm kind of worried about Kromer being gone now though.

Did you bother to watch the 2011 game against the Rams. I will concede that there is no way he could play any worse than in that game. I guess the sky's the limit in his upside though.

Look how well Brown did in the first few drives and no he didn't finish the game as he got injured.

Why? So he can break his leg? I don't think this guy has lasted an entire season as a Saint yet.
I have no idea where you guys get off saying he's a good lineman. Have you not watched the same games as me or even remember him at LT? He got straight abused there. He's not even all that great at RT, IMO. Which is probably better suited for him...
Dude has been a 2nd-round bust for us.

I don't think we have enough money to get a quality LT in FA. We will probably draft someone after the third round and roll the dice with what we have this year.
