I read the other thread on BB villains and this question popped into my head.

Ben Linus

Gus

Linus had more longevity, but he never seemed intimidating to me. He was cunning and manipulative, but when it came down to it he was a sniveling weakling. Fring was a stone cold killer

While true, Ben did let Alex get executed. That was pretty cold even though it tormented him.

Ben had to use words to intimidate anybody. Gus just had to look at someone once and they knew their time was up.

Well, Ben wanted you to think that about him, so he could stab you when you least expect it.

And it's not even remotely close.

Linus was a lame villain shoe-horned in only because fans "liked" him.

Gus Fring without a shadow of a doubt. Linus never scared or put any fear into me. He was a manipulative genius, though. Gotta give credit where it's due. When Gus slit that dude's throat, I couldn't see him the same anymore. I was always scared for Jesse and Walt when he was around.

Which one ended up dead?

Linus was just as cold blooded. He killed Jacob for crying out load.

He murdered Locke.

He killed Keamy even though he knew that meant the ship would explode.

Gus was an idiot compared to Linus.

Its got to be Gus. His calm, controlled manner while being so ruthless at the same time makes him the best TV villain

Linus was kept alive by writers, NOT story or characters or situation. That's part of the reason he stunk.

Gus was killed specifically for the story itself.

If it was Ben Linus at any point it would be before you really knew him....you knew who he was, but not much about him or the others. I would have to go with Fring tho.

Linus was able to continue to manipulate people even when they knew he was a snake.

sorry freaux at the end of the day Gus was an idiot.

he made stupid mistakes which cost him his life.

Contrived. All the way through.

I just think Linus is terrible.

He was a villain of convenience and popularity not of malice and brilliance.

Good god that sounds pretentious. All villains are contrived.

saying he died because the writers wrote it that way is plain silly.

fring was not smart.

Linus killed his father and all of the dharma initiative. He was easily as ruthless as gus.

not to mention Gus was a bit of a dandy.
