we didn't even need him on dwight, he never touched dwight at all to build the 20pt lead in the first place.

Within the context of the plan they've gone with all season, Monty putting Davis on Howard down the stretch would have been a total panic move.
Very good and fair point

Not playing AD is debatible. 20-0 run. . . . not so much.

Dear Monty It would be nice if you show this team some late game defensive basketball IQ.

I'd give Monty a pass if it was only this game he chose to sit Davis in a winnable 4th quarter. But that has been his m.o. all season. So not putting him in to guard Howard with a hurt shoulder is legit, but the dozen other times is no excuse.
wow

He shouldn't have played at all if his shoulder was the reason for him not to go against Howard.

this is pure stupidity. I hope you're just trying to defend Monty and you truly don't believe that idiotic comment you made.

Actually, the comment makes sense. We needed AD in there not so much for his man to man defense on Howard, but for his ability to score. The damage Howard did, imo, was primarily with his defense, especially on Lopez, in the final few minutes. AD should have gone in, but as others have suggested, not to guard Davis man on man (only in help situations).

I just think morw than 1 timeout and 1 lineup during a collapse is inexcusable. You have to try something. It almost shows he froze and panicked which you dont want from your coach

Davis didn't play down the stretch of that game either, when the Hornets made that huge comeback. It was the same crunchtime lineup as a few nights ago, minus Rivers.
What killed the Hornets that game was Rivers on Kobe. It was an automatic double team which led to open shots. Perhaps that spooked the coaches. But Rivers on Kobe (even if Gordon was out) isnt any better than Davis on Howard. But what is most alarming is the stubborn refusal to change things that arent working in both games. At least try something to force the Lakers out of their rhythm. Might not work, but its better than watching them score off the same play over and over and over again. Hopefully Monty learns from this and can make better adjustments next time

I hope he does, too. But, sadly, coaches have a way of being stubborn.

We know what would happen though. Howard would back Davis all the way under the basket for a dunk or force a double team that would lead to a Kobe, Meeks, Nash, or Earl Clark wide open 3 pointer.
Since when did Dwight Howard become Shaq? Dwight isn't some unstoppable force. His post moves are average at best and Davis can always foul him and send him to the line. Davis in the game also gives you vastly improved pick and roll defense and improved offense. Davis is a better rebounder too, which is where Dwight really hurts you.
