The Wire Season 2

I heard a lot of people talk about The Wire, so I finally watched The Wire S1.... enjoyed it.
Just started S2 last night, and I must say the first two episodes are not as good IMO as season1. Does The Wire get better or go downhill after the first season?

Season 2 is not as good the first time around. Once you rewatch the series, season 2 is one of the best.
And it gets better. Much better.

ok...maybe i just haven't given myself enough time to get attached to the new storyline. i don't like that the team is all split up in S2.

Felt the same way.
Enjoy the season, you'll get back to the Barksdale crew and the Major Crimes Unit soon.

Season two is probably the most important for the overall story of the series. Season 4 is considered the best though.

Season 4 is one of the greatest seasons of television every produced. It received a 98/100 on metacritic.com, which is second only to season 5 of Breaking Bad. Stick it out.

I finished season 2 last night. It starts slow, but ends very strong. I like it more than season 1.

Absolutely!

Every season starts slow because new characters and areas of the city each explores. Season 2 sets up the rest of the series better then any other.
All the major events of season 3 are set up in season 2 but I will not go into that.

I rank the seasons as follows:
1
4
3
2
5
However, even the worst of The Wire is still fantastic television and better than most shows.
Also, it's good to know that each season focuses on a specific thing, which intertwines with all the other storylines. Season one is the dtug trade. 2 is the docks. 3 is government/politics. 4 is schools. And 5 is print media. So just because the main plot in season one was Barksdale/drugs doesn't mean that will be a major plot in later seasons. But all plots intertwine together.
So that being said, you'll appreciate season 2 a little bit more later on in the series. But definitely stick it out and you'll be glad you did.

While it is necessary to set a lot of the back story and help you understand how far reaching everything is; it is surely not the most important for the story.
To the OP, season 2 is almost like a whole different show than the other seasons, you meet some characters that stick around and learn about a lot of stuff that ties together. But it's almost a whole different show on it's own, which I think is cool.

Season 2 gets better. I thought the guy who played the union head, Sobotka, was just great.

Stick with it. You need the second season for the over all story. Its my all time favorite series.

Frank Sobotka is the best character on the wire, overall, imho. he just has so much range as a character

Season 2 has the scene where Omar testifies. It's worth watching the whole season for that bit. "I rip and run...I robs drug dealers"
They're all great, but I'm partial to Season 3, because how it went back and wrapped up a lot of stuff from Season 1.
Season 4 depressed me too much with the boys. You knew those poor kids didn't have much of a chance. And I kinda got pissed off with Season 5 and how a couple of characters acted out of character.

every season takes a few episodes before the plot starts to streamline.
