I would expect more pay than this offshore Africa but maybe not. Sperry tried hiring me a few years ago for Angola and the pay was almost exactly what I make on land in the U.S.. Day rate was around $1,000 per day. Only benefit was I would have been back working 28/28, which is the best schedule in the world. I guess companies have scaled back hazard pay.

I found a few places to download it with a Google search but none were free.

Do you have any drilling experience? If you do, you can maybe make the jump after a year. If not, I would expect it to be 2-5 years.

No but do have experience in the field and a technical/engineering degree. Hoping that can speed up the jump.

In 1997 I started with a $21,300 base salary plus commission, company car, and crappy benefits. That career ended up being about $85k per year if you were willing to trade your life for it. Interviewing for a position tomorrow paying a salary of $20k per year, but realistic total package potential of about $90k for a 40 hour work week. Having to work for living and being exploited sucks. I wish I could do photography full time, but I can't live on 40 a year...

When I made the jump to MWD I had just finished my degree and also had 5 years of rig experience, including time on the brake. I could have made the switch to DD after about 3 years if I had wanted. I ended up going overseas in a managerial role instead. When I came back from overseas I did some rotary steering engineering support for a short stint. Didn't care for the money, hated Houston and the job wasn't very challenging. I made the jump to DD then and haven't regretted it once.

around $27000 with 2 wks vacation and full benefits back in 2000. now I am on salary but it comes to $24.00 Hr as long as I don't pull any OT with 5 wks vacation and full benefits. average around $60000 a yr with OT. Not OT baller status but it pays the bills and I have a little play money for my hobbies and family.
