And I'm not talking about a Volcano roll loaded with Mayo and Butter.

A simple roll like Veggie, Salmon, Mango...it has rice, seaweed, fish, veggies and that's it. no sauces

Seemed to be getting mixed reviews from my app. Anywhere from 250 per 6 pieces up to 500 per 6 pieces. I'd like to think I can eat 10 pieces of sushi and it be a healthy meal...

Not sure exactly how healthy, but there are much worse options out there.

Where you run into trouble is the loads of sodium in the soy sauce.

Not sure, but this Saturday I polished off 12 pieces of raw salmon and each bite was worth it.

I think 250 for 6 rolls would be more accurate.. 80 - 100 call for the fish 150-200 for rice and mango

I would think 10-12 pieces of something that's not covered in sauce or has fried fish in it should be fine. I like a spicy tuna roll and use the one on my app that give about 300 calories for 6 peices. I figure that is pretty close

Opt for brown rice or no rice + rice/soy paper and problem solved.

Overall though, I'd consider it healthy...especially compared to other restaurants where butter is almost always involved in the entrees in some way, shape, or form...unless you get a salad.

It's not a huge amount of rice, but I think sugar is often added to it. It all tastes pretty damn good.

If you are worried about rice being unhealthy then you aren't doing enough exercise. Carbs from starches like rice are great. I eat 4 servings of starch per day.

Yeah the sodium is what gets you. One teaspoon of soy sauce has a third of your daily value

You will retain a ton of water

Anything that doesn't have rice or mayo in it is pretty good. Just go for sashimi.

Complex carbs are good for you. Sushi rice =/= complex carb.

Rice carbs are good for daily energy. You don't have to worry about things like that unless you lead a sedentary life style.

Sodium really isn't that bad for you unless you have high blood pressure. The body regulates that system pretty well.

I definitely agree, and I personally do not request brown rice in my sushi...but for the sake of this thread and how to make sushi "healthy", brown rice/complex carbs >>> generic sushi rice.

All things considered, I actually eat pretty unhealthy. Eating healthy is so much easier said than done, in my case at least.

All this starch talk is making me hungry. I think I'm gonna go put some potato salad in a bowl of gumbo.
