Why cut? surely we can get a 7th rd pick for the three of them.
If we traded them, wouldn't the other team have to pay our exorbitant contract? Unless they re-negotiated? I think that would scare off buyers, even for a 7th (especially for Smith).

Yeah. if the deal we have in place isnt palatable, the trade may be contigent upon a new contract being signed. You know... like what we were supposedly gonna do with Revis last week.

That's why we are asking all these dudes to restructure.

If we could work out a new palatable contract, we wouldn't have to trade them in the first place.

Unless we want a change at SS. Bhudon or 504hornets said the team really likes Cory White at SS.

I think they're waiting on Harper to see what they can get in FA or the draft. If they need the money in FA for his replacement or another position, they'll cut him. If not, they'll go into the draft with him and, if they have a SS they like available, draft him and then cut Harper. If not, they can roll with him for one more season
Yeah, it looks like whether they straight release Smith and Vilma, or those guys take the pay cuts, that will be more than enough to make a splash in free agency. Still think they could look for Harper to restructure, but I think they can wait until next year to ask for Brees to restructure.

Some of us discussed this the other day. I think the team that signs the player to the original deal takes the hit for the guaranteed money, just like when you release a player. The guaranteed money doesn't carry over to the team getting the player.

This to me means that they are just making room to keep guys like Vilma or Smith

Time to focus on secondary in the draft now. They are making room for someone big in free agency.

A good chance that someone big might be Bushrod or his replacement. I'd imagine if they had anything to spare they might want to consider an early deal for Graham before he get's any more leverage, too.

I'd like to discuss this. When was this said? Did he officially switch? How do they know?
I hope all of these questions were asked of them.

I don't remember saying this. I have said that my buddy told me Payton and the new defensive staff have had extensive talks on the state of their CB's and that Payton was impressed with how White came along last season before his injury. Now that the situation has been brought up, White has the speed and cover ablities to play SS but I dont think he has the size. White will most likely grow into a quality starter at CB but I never see him being the tough and physical type of bump and run coverage guy. He is perfect for the nickel and reminds me of Randal Gay.

Ok. Well, he did play Safety in college. I did think he was OK at CB last year. Just Ok.

Roman Harper listed at 6'1, 200 pounds. Corey White, 6'1, 205 pounds. The guy is a safety. That's what he was in college. That's what everyone had him playing in the pro's.
