City Wants Power to “Disarm Individuals” During Crisis

Guntersville (Ala.) Mayor Leigh Dollar is working with city officials to pass an ordinance that would give police the power to “disarm individuals” during a disaster, a chilling example of how the second amendment is being assaulted via the back door.

The new rule would allow authorities to confiscate guns of “unruly” people during an extreme weather event such as the April 2011 tornadoes or any other emergency.

“The ordinance states officers could disarm individuals, if necessary, reports ABC 31. “Dollar says the proposal is just way to give officers more authority to protect themselves.”

Dollar denied that the ordinance would be used to take away constitutional rights, but residents questioned why authorities would need to pass a new ordinance given that police already have the power to arrest citizens who are being “unruly,” whether armed or not.

Vote these pieces of shite out of office, citizens. That's the only way it's going to end - if it's not too late already.

Guntersville is full of country boys and girls. Big outdoor community.

This won't go well for the mayor. That said, iwhi.

They can try all they want. After the seizure of guns during katrina, many states enacted laws that made confiscation because of crisis illegal. Then congress passed a federal law dictating the same thing, signed into law by Bush.

Louisiana legislator Steve Scalise introduced Louisiana House Bill 760, which would prohibit confiscation of firearms in a state of emergency, unless the seizure is pursuant to the investigation of a crime, or if the seizure is necessary to prevent immediate harm to the officer or another individual. On June 8, 2006, HB 760 was signed into law.[84] 21 other states joined Louisiana in enacting similar laws. A federal law prohibiting seizure of lawfully held firearms during an emergency, the Disaster Recovery Personal Protection Act of 2006, passed in the House with a vote of 322 to 99, and in the Senate by 84-16. The bill was signed into law by President Bush on October 9, 2006.

I don't really have guns, but that's how I would feel if I did

Good luck with that. This new "rule" would be illegal under state preemption. Cities don't have the power to implement rules like this, the state legislature does.

Update

quote:

Guntersville City Council has been hearing from residents over the proposed Disaster Emergency Ordinance.
One provision would allow police officers to disarm the public in an emergency or disaster.
Guntersville Mayor Leigh Dollar and the city council have called the meeting for 4:30pm Wednesday to remove the proposed ordinance from consideration.

Good for the people of Guntersville. I hope they don't forget this come election time, though.

Too late.
Her true colors are revealed.

She should resign and go to work for the NOPD where this behavior is encouraged and celebrated.

The video said that Tuscaloosa already has a similar ordinance in place?

My cousin got his 'guns' confiscated during Katrina. He was thrown in jail without due process, and stayed there for two weeks without counsel.

It's already happened. It is too late. If something really stupid happens, and you want to keep your shite, you may have to die for it.
