I'm sure it's not every damn New Yorker, and yet they get these decisions of what they can and can't consume made for them, which is an glaring example of why Democracy is a load of horse shite.

the choice is made in the voting booth, it's not forced on anyone any more than conservative philosophy is forced on people who don't agree when they are in power.

Democracy be damned eh?

Yes, damn Democracy. What the hell is so good about it? Why should my civil liberties be up for a vote? Especially when I'm not harming anybody? Why should voters be allowed to say gays, consenting adults, can't marry each other? Why should the legality of weed even be up for discussion?

Why did you bring up conservatives?

And the choice wasn't made in the voting booth. Did the guy run expressly on limiting 2-Liter Cola's?

Because it's not just liberals who "force" their agenda on the populace when they are in power.

Bloomberg's record and agenda on public health is no secret. It's been going on for a long time. If a voter in NYC doesn't like it they should have voted for someone else.

This is a thread about an independent/liberal limiting individual choice.

I'm sure people did vote for someone else.

New York should criminalize nonmarital sexual activity. That way they can get rid of STDs and unwanted pregnancy. Plus they could help the environment by cutting down on the amount of hormonal birth control.

And a hypocritical one at that considering most of the people here bitching have no problem with their side forcing their will on the people when they are in power.

And if it bothers them that much they should move to a place with more like minded people.

Bloomberg makes Dinkins look good, which I thought was impossible.

Why don't you move there and run on that issue?

Stop generalizing me and deflecting. I'll call out such inconsistencies on either side. Unlike you, I'm not in the tank for one side.

Such a simpleton.

I don't, but I'm sure it makes you feel better about holding water for the man.

Honestly it shouldn't even matter at all that much who is voted into office. They shouldn't have the power to micro manage the lives and choices of it's citizens.

But it's the same issue. Why you're unable to understand this is beyond me.

Perhaps people felt that Bloomberg was the best person for the job on the whole, even if one of his agenda's was incredibly fricking stupid. If you truly care about your city, are you going to refuse vote for who you deem to be the best person for the job just because he is overzealous about food.

It's ok to vote for someone and be upset about one of their decisions. At the end of the day, the government's role should be nothing more than preventing individuals in the pursuit of their own happiness to interfere with anyone else's pursuit of happiness. If an individual wants to do something bad for them, and only for them, nobody, especially the government, has the right to tell them otherwise (and yes, this applies to drug law as well)

Yeah but what you're talking about is politically untenable.

So instead of a 2 liter, they'll give them a 6-pack instead?

That is your opinion and many people in this country don't agree with it.
