I've been to one in Minnesota. It sucked. Sound was horrible

re: Drive-in theaters...who's been to one?

Back in the early to mid-80s when they "renovated" the dive-in off of Airline near Siegen, my father took us to a double feature of Psycho 2 and American Werewolf in London.
I remember it was humid and there were lots of mosquitos. I also remember the speaker was broken for our slot, so my borhters and I just ran around the place and acted a fool.

In the mid-2000s, I went to a theater in a small town in Wyoming. It was July, but once the sun went down, the weather was amazing -- there were mountains in the back ground and instead of speakers, you tuned in through the radio. It was a blast.

Had definitely seen its better days towards the end; if they hadn't demolished it it would have collapsed on its own.

When I lived it Hawaii I saw Back to the Future Part III at a drive-in, I might have been 10 years old at the time.

I have to admit I found myself watching Lionheart on one of the adjacent screens

I went as a child, at least. If that helps you.

(ETA: I think there's a drive-in still operating in Gatesville, TX, if you're feeling nostalgic.)

I miss the one in Lafayette and I'd love to see them come back, but I can't think of a worse business venture. I've seen them fail for years. They should add it to the list of classic blunders

1. Never start a land war in Asia
2. Never go up against a Sicilian when death is on the line.
3. Never open a nostalgic, drive-in movie theater.

I've been to the one in Dothan twice in the last year. 1st run movies double features. $7/adult. Tune in the sound on the radio and you can talk during the show.
