re: jesuit beats St. Pauls for 5A state championship

South LA usually has the better sides and win more state championships. The shreveport area usually has some good teams but they haven't been able to keep up with the NOLA/Northshore area.

Lafayette and Lake Charles also produce solid teams.

They do, but not near the quantity of NOLA. I haven't heard much about St. Louis these days

St Paul's was diving quite often an i believe it bit them back there
That ref thought everything was a dive for both teams. Every time someone hit the ground even on legit fouls he would signal for them to get up. He was a tool. The PK was a blown call no matter how you slice it. Even the jesuit defender knew it he kind of raised his head back like "damn" then was surprised he didnt get called.

Jesuit was better team though imo, and I hate Jesuit.

re: jesuit beats St. Pauls for 5A state championship

My buddy was an AR for this game. He actually went to Jesuit. The head ref clearly knew he messed up with the no-call in the box at the end of the game and knew he blew the game. Winning is winning in soccer regardless of whether or not rules are followed (handballs are often allowed in high level games too). I completely disagree with Jesuit having an alumni as any type of ref, even though he clearly saw Jesuit should have conceded that PK.

Just confirms my comment in the BM-Jesuit game thread.

It looked like a St. Paul's player spit at the head ref right before the players shook hands following the game. Is that what happened and if so did the refs let it slide or are there repercussions?

Your "buddy" has to be 7 years removed from their highschool to ref. He may have gone to Jesuit, if so it was many years ago. The St. Pauls player who spit at the ref was reported to his athletic director and principal. Naturally, every St. Pauls player was cursing at the ref after the game. Spitting at a ref is a MAJOR VIOLATION and will be treated as so. Anyone know if the spitter was a senior?

"Naturally, every St. Pauls player was cursing at the ref after the game."

If cursing out the referee by players after the game is considered "natural" behavior, then that is sad. If my sons ever curse out a referee they will be serving a parent-enforced suspension. But agree that spitting is much more heinous.

Refs were bad the whole game but i do believe the St. Pauls player pulled the acting card a little too far on this one

It happened and another kid cursed the ref. Both were seniors and the spitter got red-carded but soccer-wise its meaningless. You would be suspended one game typicall.

Not sure if ST P will take some disciplinary action or not. I would imagine they will.

Yes. He's a senior and so what the kid doing the majority of the cursing and belittling of the ref.

Naturally, a great player has the drive to win. Have you ever seen Drogba point out the disgrace that is the refs in barca games after their defeat to barca in CL 09. I realize this is on a way higher level but my choice of the word "naturally" was carefully chosen. Drogba has an extreme drive to win. A Champions league trophy isnt too shabby. Then again you can kick a ball boy in the EPL and the suspension is only 3 games.
