re: Falcons to release Michael Turner

I would never take a running back in the first round. That is the easiest position to find.

The Falcons already have their younger, cheaper version of Reggie in Jacquizz. They need a bigger back to platoon with him

Yah u right. Spencer Ware?

Current running backs drafted in the first round drafted in the last ten years.

Really good or great:
Adrian Peterson
Chris Johnson
Marshawn Lynch
Willis McGahee
Darren McFadden
Larry Johnson
Steven Jackson
DeAngelo Williams

Good, probably worth a first round pick:
Jonathan Stewart
Rashard Mendenhall
Ronnie Brown
Cedric Benson
Reggie Bush

Young and promising future:
Trent Richardson
Doug Martin
CJ Spiller
Ryan Mathews
David Wilson

Respectable:
Felix Jones
Beanie Wells
Knowshon Moreno

Busts:
Chris Perry
Kevin Jones
Mark Ingram
Jahvid Best
Laurence Maroney

Running backs may be the easiest position to find or whatever, but a lot of really good running backs were high picks. Others like Ray Rice and Maurice-Jones Drew were second rounders.

Having a good running back in the first round is not a bad thing if you have poor to average QB play. Not everyone can have Tom Brady.

Cutting Turner is a no-brainer. Lacy might be a good option, but I would also like to see what the free agent market looks like.

I wouldn't rush to call Ingram a bust yet.

I just think that most of the time that the RB is about the least important part of a strong running game outside of Adrian Peterson, who is just a freak.

Shit, four of the six playoff teams in the NFC were run-first teams. Marshawn Lynch, Alfred Morris, and Frank Gore along with their mobile QB's made passing relatively insignificant for those teams. Their quarterbacks were only attempting like 22 passes a game.

All of these teams had workhorse backs, especially Seattle where Marshawn ran up a high number of carries. Lynch was easily the centerpiece of the Seattle offense.

I would say that almost half of the teams in the NFL are run-oriented offenses. The myth of running backs becoming antiquated is exaggerated.

I did not feel like Ingram warranted a separate category of "Jury is still out" or something like that. He is sure as frick does not belong in the promising, young RB section though.

I guess he could have fallen into respectable, but I just threw this up quickly. Not really a big deal if I mislabeled one guy.

You think Matt Ryan is not a good QB. That instantly disqualifies from having any semblance of football intelligence.

I wonder if the Falcons will take a look at S Ware in the mid rounds?

I doubt many would consider it your entire respectable group very respectable with regards to their draft position.

Eddie Lacy

I remember there were people on this very board who were saying Lacy was better than Trent Richardson a couple of years ago. This was when Richardson was still at Alabama.

LOL.

I'll say this though, TJ Yelding may end up being better than any of them.

Lattimore would be the top back in this class if not for the injuries he has had, what a shame. But we've seen other backs overcome horrific injuries like Willis Mcgahee.

Adrian Peterson is the greatest example. If it was not for him being such a beast, the vikings would have been about like the chiefs if having to rely on Ponder.
