I was reading about a new recruit that was offered and he commented about the spread offense.

See below.

"I'm looking at academics first," he said. "If I get hurt, I need to fall back on something. I like the spread offense, and LSU said they're starting a spread offense. I'm going to like that. I like to get the ball a lot and make plays."

Thoughts ?

I actually like the way our offense is run now. The only thing we are missing is creativity within the receiving core IMO. Get that corrected and next year could be great.

We will run a pro style. We have hill Hilliard and Blue and want badly LF so the pro style is here to stay.

LSU has run the spread for years. not very successful at it the last few years but having 4 or 5 receivers is nothing new. our OL and QB problems have made things difficult. as far as the option read, JJ was successful at it, but mett just doesn't have the feet.

With out a good QB it want work .I hope Mett. picks it up this year. Losing our Defense, we are going to have to keep the ball as much as we can to be successful & give our young players on DF get some playing time.

Base set: Pro.

Other sets as down and distance call for.

If you're picking up 5 yards per play running the ball out of the I, why spread the defense out?

Variants of the same offensive sets we run now. CC will feature match ups which is the difference that a NFL OC brings versus a position coach. Pre snap reads will also change based upon what CC thinks is the best call option if defense is taking away initial play call. More professional approach to an offensive game plan highlighting the strengths of your players. Look for a much better and timely use of play action.

GrandDad, you said JJ was successful at running the read option? Did I miss something while watching LSU football the last several years???

New Offensive Coordinator does not necessarily (or even probably) mean a "new" offense. CC has already said that it doesn't make sense to try to get the guys there now to learn a whole new concept. Just take what they know and build on it.

What NY CAJUN said. Don't remake the wheel just have an identity and make the most of particular match ups that put your play makers in right position.

mostly pro style stuff with some spread mixed in. the lines between the 2 are starting to blur though IMO.

Hopefully, we won't see anything like putting Spencer Ware under center on 4th and 1 from Alabama's 32 with only 8 minutes remaining, and a first down almost assures a victory, with Jeremy Hill, RS#10, and Michael Ford watching from the sidelines, as Spencer Ware with no momentum gets stuff by 8 Alabama defenders for a loss. Worst call in LSU history, directed by "The Mad Hatter". Give that man a raise!

Our offense is more of a hybrid, which I think can be a good thing. In theory, LSU should be one hell of a passing threat b/c we run the ball so damn well.

IMHO, I don't think we have enough "deception" in our offense. There is no need for a "spread" offensive philosophy, we just need to find ways to make our opponents have to think on defense by being more creative with our moving parts while protecting our QB (Bama does this w/McCarron).

Aren't there different types of spread Os? Mike Leach ran a spread much different that RichRods. I don't see Miles doing either really but esp not RichRod spread.

There are different types of spread. I imagine we'll see it a lot next year because this staff FINALLY gets that Mett doesn't need to be under center. Sure, we'll go i-formation from time to time but I'm guessing we'll see Mett in the shotgun with a single back a lot with a little Desean/TE/H-back thrown in from time to time.

he often was successful. his much discussed problem was how long it took to read the defense and how long the OL could hold their blocks. there were other college qb's that were better at the reading part but JJ had some damn good runs.
