Aside from tonight, not saying Paul is awful. Going back to the reason for the thread, fans on this board still have the live for Paul, and rightfully so, but the consensus for a while now is that Parker isn't in his class. I remember threads just a year or so ago saying that Parker wasn't in even in the top 5. Yet there was still live for Deron Williams too.

This is hardly a reasonable reaction to one game.

Chris Paul had a shitty game. It happens. He's definitely better than Tony Parker.

why?

I don't have a problem with anyone who says TP, CP, or RW is their favorite point guard in the NBA today... but anyone who says one is head and shoulders better than the others seems weird to me.

Drives the lane and finishes in the paint? Better midrange jumper? Better distributor of the ball when it comes to kicking out or making the extra pass?

I would have pointed to scoring more points with a better efficiency (fg%). TP has been incredible on the NBA's biggest stage (NBA finals) as well

I do think Paul is more of a pure assist man and generates another possession plus per game with his steals than TP.

How come the numbers do not reflect that?

Chris Paul's worst assist season would be TP's best.

CP has led the league in assists twice and steals 5 times. Parker has done neither.

He averages 4 more assist per game than TP for their career.

Paul has more total assist in 8 seasons than Parker does in 12.

Paul has a career PER 6 points higher than TP.

Career 3p% and Ft%? Paul.

Paul averages 1.5 steals more than Parker per game.

Parker has the rings. He's a great PG. Paul is going to go down at least as a top 3 ever, probably the best ever if he stays healthy.

He's a better scorer, better midrange jumper, and better on defense all while averaging 7 assist a game. Paul averages 9.

I knew somebody would use assists to say Paul was a better distributor, and that's why I said with making the extra pass and whatnot. Paul gets an assist by throwing it to Blake who gets a shot to go. The Spurs are free flowing with Parker leading the way. Parker's assists aren't something to pad the stats, but necessary in the way the Spurs run their offense...if that makes sense. In other words, Parker does a better job of finding people at point blank range wide open.

It seems you are discussing career wise and most people know Paul has had a better career. Tony is playing better this season IMO. They have been playing without Duncan and Ginobli recently and they have still been dominating teams.

Naw. You'd think Parker would average more PPG for their career

better midrange jumper

Naw

better on defense

4 All NBA Defensive teams to 0 says different.

I don't know if I'd say Parker is a better distribution guy. I think Parker is a better player though. Mainly his ability to get in the paint and finish.

Parker's been in the league for 12 years. I don't see arguing Paul has the better career... just that he might end up having the better career

I'm going strictly off this season. Parker is playing his best basketball this year.

Edit- It's also very clear Parker has a better midrange jumper. I don't even think that's up for debate.

Ok, I thought you were talking career.

Anyways, what concrete numbers are you using to quantify who is better?

Both are integral parts on winning teams. Most of Paul's numbers are better. And his PER is 2 points higher

Chris Paul is money from midrange. Parker is better at attacking the basket.

When was the last time Paul has showed up in prime time? He will end up top 3 regular season point guards ever, but at this rate, his postseason legacy is a joke. No rings, don't mean everything, but he lets players like Parker make him their bitch when it counts

I actually think Paul holds his own against Parker head to head. Now the man that owns Paul is Derek Rose. He kills Paul.

Deron Williams gives CP a hard time too.
