CLASSIC movie and some great quotes:

"what the hell is he doing? he's going to storm the beach of troy with 50 men?!??!"

"black sail. achillies."

"you know what's waiting beyond that beach!? IMMORTALITY! TAKE IT. IT'S YOURS!"

"Look at him. ROW! ROW YOU LAZY HORDES ROW!"

also one of the greatest opening scenes ever. the special effects are great and the movie holds up 10 years later. and the GOAT actor of our generation. but why do rantards trash this film??

It had two cool scenes the beginning one and when he chunks the spear about 300 yards.

i don't hate it.

But they pushed a little too hard with the "your name lives forever" thing. They could have had the same effect if they mentioned it once, maybe twice. But it pops up like 9 times in the movie. We get it. We get the reference.

How are these for ya?

"The beach belonged to Priam in the morning. It belongs to Agamemnon in the afternoon!"

"You will not have eyes tonight, you will not have ears or a tongue! You will wander the Underworld blind, deaf, and dumb and all the dead will know that this is Hector - the fool who thought he killed Achilles!"

I don't hate it, but a classic? Not even close.

You mean when Brad Pitt just stabs a guy in the shoulder? That's not even in the debate for best opening scenes ever.

This is the first time I can remember anyone even mentioning that film around here. Its really just forgettable and tries to be the next Lord of the Rings-ish film that came out in droves during this time. Its just ok.

I remeber being excited to watch this when it came out bc I was an anthropology major when I was in college, but I left the theater disappointed. It wasnt bad, but on a scale of 1-10 it had a cheese factor of 7. There were way too many cheesey one liners and I thought the dialouge couldve been much better. No offense. I do still watch it when it comes on, but mostly bc it is based on a classic.
