Yeah, they were known as "Sigma fig Hairsalon" at my school.

Apparently the existing chapter was kicked out by the alums and fully replaced in the mid-80s by a bunch of guys trying to found a new fraternity after someone walked in on one active sucking another's dick.

Have a friend who attended an HBCU. Some of his stories about hazing, not necessarily from his fraternity, were borderline unbelievable but would certainly fit into this:

quote:

black frat hazing is all about hurting you physically

Believable.

White fraternities who do it right will tend to mentally frick with you instead because it leaves little to no physical evidence.

Tulane frats don't mess around

The fraternity, commonly called PIKE, now faces allegations that members poured boiling water on the bodies of pledges and caked them with flour, crab boil, vinegar, cayenne peppers and wasabi sauce. The victims were treated at a local hospital with second- and third-degree burns, according to New Orleans police.

Yeah, Pikes were never known for being smart. Crab boil is common but it sounds like a newb got a hold of it that night

That's a new one on me, though believable.

My freshman roommate was a Pike. He claimed his bid weekend involved his entire pledge class being blindfolded, put in the fraternity's pool, and then had basketballs chucked at them.

I could never understand why people would join fraternities.

Way back in my day (late 80's-early 90's), black fraternities branded their pledges with a branding iron on the upper arm. Is this still done?

Networking/tradition I imagine. But it never appealed to me either.

One of the Ques told me that their hazing was rough, and it was to show that no matter how bad you have it, it's not as bad as it was being a slave.

My fraternity wasn't bad. Total mind frick though. Lots of sleep deprivation, time commitments, etc. Anything physically was self imposed. Nobody ever laid a hand on me. And supposedly we were one of the more 'notorious' for hazing when I was there...

The student said pledges were made to sing aloud a pop song each time they wanted to enter the house. Those songs included Meredith Brooks' "Bitch" and Paula Cole's "Where Have All the Cowboys Gone?"

This one is familiar.

One of my pledge brothers had to sing "Wannabe" by the Spice Girls whenever anyone said his pledge name because of a specific frick-up he made earlier that semester.

Every member of Omega Psi Phi that I can remember meeting has had an omega branded on their arm.

I'm not sure if that one is considered non-consentual, though.

A friend of mine in college had one on his upper arm. I forget the frat... Omega something, blue frat colors, big into the step show stuff (:nb4racist:).

He insisted he chose to have it done.

That was the one

That's what I have gathered from this as well.

To get hazed.

It's an experience.

Not to mention women, fellowship, booze, community service, and a starting social network outside of high school.
