I think it may end in both sides wishing this shite could have been solved quietly.

No doubt White made some enemies throughout the department, looks like especially with the union. Reasing between the lines it looks like he used a questionable reason to move a higher up union official off a cush job to a job in the field. Usually something that is not done. The union official started airing laundry to Kip and basically creating a reason to get rid of White. Why Kip took the opportunity to get rid of White is what is intruiging. Did White not allow Kip to be involved in decisions? Why is Kip involved in the personnel decisions?

The racial shit, while probably with some basis, is just icing on the cake. No better way to get attention then to start with race baiting.

This does shed some light on the Kipster. Although, I knew all along.

Really though, who cares? Kip appointed the guy to serve at his pleasure and could have fired him whenever he wanted for whatever reason he wanted.

Tend to agree with this. I was surprised White is entitled to any civil service protections. I don't have a dog in the fight, but its pretty fun watching this unravel.

I think this the issue now - he's a civil service employee and can appeal through the board. The LA constitution would allow this appeal to override the mayor's decision.

Is he a civil service employee? I assumed not because he was appointed by Kip.

Boy would that create a productive governmental atmosphere.

It doesn't look like this city can ever move past this issue. We have been dealing with it forever.

Same was said in NOLA. You may not fully agree with them politically, but Landrieu and Serpas are truly trying to change the culture over there. Give it a few more years, and I think you'll start to see noticeable change.

The first thing they did, and correctly I might add, was admit there was a problem. I don't see Kip ever doing that.

I'll be retired and moved far away from Baton Rouge by the time any of this happens. I may read the paper just to laugh at the way the city has evolved in about 7 years or so.

I agree. He also lost because all he tried to be was the Anti-Kip. The only thing he stood for was the opposite of what Kip was for.

As to "who cares?". You & everyone else in the city should, as this COP was at least making the attempt to shake things up & get the good ol boys out in the streets & actually working for the community. I've never heard of any COP, going back decades, getting the open support of so many black community leaders & individual citizens as White has over this. That alone is a worthwhile accomplishment in and of itself. If you don't care bout the safety of the city, then keep on with this attitude. But then, when the shite keeps on hitting the fan, don't bitch bout how poorly run the police dept. is. And for those who've missed it, the union rep who is leading Kip's agenda in the paper everyday is the same union rep who White booted from his do nothing job behind a desk out into the community; the same union rep whose fellow officers would not sign his time sheet in fear of getting caught up in a scandal. Kip will be running for another office again, and he will need all the union help he can get. That is what this is all bout. As a white republican, I supported him. No longer.

I think they have started off well. Seems like they told the cops to not sweat the small stuff(weed), and become closer with the citizens and starting good relationships with them

If you don't worry about the stupid, trivial bullshite, a lot more can be done for the more serious things. Only hindrance now is the judicial system

Serpas' manipulation of crime statistics helps Mitchy Mitch and himself at the same time. They aren't reporting violent crimes and other types of serious criminal activity the same way most PD's & LEA's do. It skews the numbers to make people think that crime has decreased on their respective watches.

It's not the truth.

I really don't know anyone in NOLA that thinks crime has decreased; if anything, we hear about more crime. The point is, the perception of the NOPD has started to change. If the community doesn't trust the cops, why report crimes? Seems to me like the police are starting to get results more quickly in violent crimes, which I can't see as anything but positive.

That's because Mike Walker is an idiot. His loss had nothing to do with his skin color.
