ncsu would be a good get for the conference compared to most of the rumored teams, especially wake

It's a bad sign if your spin control is to invoke the Big East. Maybe it isn't, but it still ain't healthy.

I am just saying that 6 teams aren't going to leave the ACC in the next four months. Also, a guy from West Virginia's equivalent of Tigerdroppings does not have a scoop on a national story like this (that no one has uncovered for the past 4 months).

Yea, I'm pretty sure the NC schools want to stay together. It really would be a shame for Duke, UNC, and State to not be in the same conference, considering how intimately all three schools work together and the community in the triangle.

hum, interesting. kind of ironic since Paterno always wanted to join the Big East anyway, if they wound up there thanks to the scandal

I think UNC has a lot of power in this whole situation.

I know their administration looks down on the ACC big time, but if they go to the Big 10, it may really give NC State a favorable situation when they join the SEC.

I think all four North Carolina schools have a huge incentive to stay in the ACC, as do the schools like Clemson and FSU since neither the Big 10 nor SEC are viable options.

The best case scenario for the conference is for the MD lawsuit to take a very long time. That way, the Big 12 grant of rights clock will keep ticking away.

That isn't how it works. Even though the Big Ten Network may be offered currently in areas it doesn't receive the money it is guaranteed by cable providers if there is a Big Ten team in the market. Expansion into a market means a lot more money. Additionally, the Big Ten Network deal gets renegotiated in 2017. I'm hearing numbers like $50 million a school in the first year of the deal.

I'm not just making that up, that is the purpose, whether you want to accept that or not is up to you, but that is what they are doing.

yeah, that's not really what we are talking about.

most people watch their teams, so if their team is in the SEC, then yes, they will watch SEC games.

The main driver is the conference networks. Currently they get paid by cable companies based on the # of subs in the market (if 1.5M peole have cable in La, then they get what ever fee they have negotiated based on that. Obviously the fee is higher in states the conference plays in, hence the desire to add new markets.

BTN gets a cut for every TV in the market if there is a B1G team in the market whether they subscribe to the channel or not. Huge $$$$$$

it's not about ratings

it's about television sets with the cable/satellite package. if the Big10N is on a package, it gets money whether people watch it or not

yeah the B10N was way ahead of the game (the huge population centers of the B10 natural geography helped)

the Pac12 was the next to realize the market

SEC lags behind

The narrow minded perspective about expansion amazes me. I have a dear friend who is an Ohio State fan and he bitches about every addition. If it was up to him we'd only add Texas, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, etc. I've tried to get him to see what this is all about but he refuses to acknowledge what it is really about.

Getting television markets is great but the quality of the conference has to come before it or we won't have a product to sell to said tv markets. I don't see why NC/Duke wouldn't be interested in the SEC. Money? SEC athletic programs are consistently among the most profitable. NC football would stand to gain immensely from becoming part of the SEC.
