So I moved back to LA on a corporate relo and went to the DMV to register the vehicles and boat. I knew I would get hosed on the state tax, but this is ridiculous....
Registered my truck but held off on the wife's car. She has a 2012 with a NADA over 40K, this means I will likely be looking at paying over 3k to the DMV to register a car I already paid taxes on once. I know it is not a sound financial move but I am so pissed I am thinking about trading the thing in and buying a 2013. Talk me down from the ledge here..

No, it doesn't justify trading in the car. I know there are some states that LA has a reciprocal agreement with which would allow you to claim up to 4% on your taxes.

Set up LLC in montana. There is an attorney up there that will do this. No sales tax ever on any vehicle you purchase. Plus you don't have to get an inspection sticker.

In no way possible would it be worth it IMHO... It sucks but it's still your cheapest option
