When is the next time a center wins MVP in the NBA?

Are there any MVP level talents out there right now playing the 5?
I think Howard is done as an MVP level candidate. The only other one who has the talent to win MVP is Cousins and he is a nutjob. Maybe if Davis grows into a 5 or Drummond.
What type of season would they need? Statistical dominance or best player on best team? Re-invention(aka 3 point threat) of the 5 combined with retro post play? Scoring leader?
I just can't see any center being recognized as the best going forward.

Anthony Davis is the only answer IMO.

I wouldn't say Davis is anymore talented than Cousins. Just mentally stronger. Drummond is a dominating player as well.

People call me crazy but I thought Yao had a shot in 06 and 07 before he got hurt. 20 and 10 every night

Would have to have a great statistical season AND be the best player on the best team (record wise), and have a lot of other players have down years.

it will probably be a while with the neo-NBA rules and the changing dynamics of NBA strategy

since the media hated Lebron in 10/11 and he wasn't going to win the MVP, howard should have won it
rose winning was a travesty. he wasn't any better than russell westbrook that year

Nothing crazy about it. He just couldn't stay healthy. It's a shame he missed out on those years.

Yeah his numbers were great in those seasons, if he had stayed healthy he would likely have MVP and still be playing.

Good I guess people outside of Houston just laughed out how goofy he was.

True. For Howard to win now, he'd have to change teams, public image, shoot 65% FT and be top 5 in scoring. As well lead the league in rebounding and blocks. In addition too playing 75+ games and close out games.
Now as SFP said about the neo-NBA rules, would outlawing the Hack-a-____ strategy change this conversation?

This might be your most insightful, intelligent post you have ever made.

Anthony Davis' only shot is if he puts on weight and figures out a way to create his own shots from the low post. He has the defensive skills, just not the frame for it yet.
Then he'd have to lead the league in REB, blocks, and be top 20 in scoring.
I don't see that happening any time soon. Maybe in 3-5 years when he leaves NOLA for a big market team.

I think you undersell how mentally tough Davis is. Kid is everything you want from player from the head up. That's why I'm certain if he grows into a 5 he is in the discussion. Cousins is everything you don't want between the ears, but his talent level has never been questioned.
the big IF for Cousins has always been maturity .
