will any athlete ever break into the top 3 greatest american athletes of all time ?

i think tiger had his shot and blew it, but even if he never fell off a cliff, would he have been thought of as highly as jordan, ruth or ali?

Ruth doesn't belong because he played in a Whites Only League.

And........GO!

tiger still has a chance if he gets to 100 wins and 20 majors.

The TRUE Top 3.

Michael Jordan

Jessie Owens

Jackie Robinson

ETA: As much as I hate Brazilian Athletes, Pele gets consideration as well.

Ah. No. My TRUE Top 3 still stands, though.

Jordan does not belong for several reasons, the primary being he played in a blacks only league

Why are no football players ever mentioned in the greatest top three?

And to answer your question, no. When you look at the ridiculous training regimens available to modern players that still use PEDs, its hard to say anyone will have the drive to be a GOAT.

Think about guys like Ruth and Mantle that partied to the edge of death and still were the greatest? Think of how great Mickey could've been had he actually attempted to take care of himself?

Michael Jordan is a tremendous athlete, but IMO his greatest asset was his drive to win. When the game was on the line, Jordan wanted the ball. There was no question of "if" Jordan could get open: he just did. Look at Lebron and you'll see a guy that is so much more physically talented than MJ. Could you imagine the player you'd have if you gave him the drive of Jordan?

Boxing is a dead sport. It wouldn't surprise me if in 10-20 years Ali's name will be left off this list. Hell, most people younger than me only know Ali as the guy Will Smith played in a movie. Its sad, but true.

Not even the GOAT at his position, let alone the sport.

That doesn't take anything away from his accomplishments, though.
