I ate at Applebee's for the first time in my life today

There's a reason I've never chose to eat there. I'm not into those sort of mega chain places, and someone in my group chose to meet there for lunch. I went in with very low expectations, but they didn't even meet those.
I scoured the menu looking for something that would be hard to mess up and got a steak with roasted potatoes, sautéed mushrooms and onions. My medium rare came out medium well which soon after the first bite turned into well because it came on this sizzling plate. I didn't feel like sending a steak back at Applebee's when with a group. The potatoes was basically one small red potato cut into four pieces and the onions had bits of sautéed skin. Whatever seasoning they put on the steak was funky tasting.
I should have taken a pic of these fried onion strands a friend got which she did send back. They were dark brown, burnt and looked downright nasty.
Save the "no shite Sherlock" comments because like I said, it wasn't my choice. Another person picked up the tab, so thank goodness I didn't have to pay for that crap, but still I felt ripped off.
I don't have a clue as to how or why people actually go there. Never again.

a steak is probably the easiest thing to frick up, dude
just get a salad or a sampler app plate. those can't be messed up.

you chose a steak and thought that would be the hardest thing to frick up?
What kind of group eats at Applebees? Church Group?
The only thing there that is remotely close to okay, are their desserts
Hard to frick up desserts though

Burger may have been the safer choice

Your a good poster Degas but steaks are finicky. yardbird, salads, pastas are safer. I believe Applebee's does well because Idiocracy is in full effect.
Think of Applebee's as a food ghetto. It sucks but do you want those people taking up space in your favorite restaurants. I appreciate the class/taste segregation myself.

Burger would have been a better choice IMO.

You chose steak?
If looking for difficult to frick up, should've gone with burger and fries, or soup and salad

The one time I ate there it was all right for what it was, a step up from fast food. It's not fine dining, but it's palatable if you're tired of a burger in a paper sack.
Edited for typo.
