Jut curious, why is everyone high on Lincoln? After he was elected President the Union fell apart, and he was unable to fix it without having a million US casualties.

Never understood this one.

The Union fell apart because he got elected. The South couldn't tolerate an anti-slavery President. States started seceding before he was even inaugurated. The only way the Union doesn't collapse is if Lincoln renounces his anti-slavery beliefs, and even then it's only a maybe. To blame him for the Union falling apart is much like blaming a rape victim for walking into the room of the person who wants to rape her. I guess she could have agreed to consensual sex beforehand but why should she?

And whose fault was that?

Yep. By the time he was sworn in as the 16th President of the United States - South Carolina, Mississippi, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Louisiana, and Texas had all left the Union, formed their own government, and elected Jefferson Davis as their president. Virginia, Arkansas, North Carolina, and Tennessee would join them just over a month after Inauguration Day. The movement toward Civil War began before Abraham Lincoln was even born. That journey was initiated at the Constitutional Convention in 1787 when important questions (namely the one concerning slavery) were left untended to or glossed over entirely.

Hard for the South as a whole to really get personal (beyond what they believed Lincoln's belief's to be) considering that he wasn't even on the ballot on the southern states. He was a figurehead, the probable abolitionist who not a single southern man voted for is now in a position to put the lifestyle and "rights" of that region under his thumb.

Because he is a federalist. That being said, the nanny state liberals should love him.

I don't understand the FDR love. His programs are going to cripple this country within the next few decades. They also paved the way for plenty more federal programs years later.
