re: When picking up an order to go, do you tip?

quote:

bring the food out to the car

When I get a to-go order, I sure as hell *NEVER* get it delivered to my car. I am *NOT* talking about delivery. I am talking about picking it up INSIDE YOURSELF as we ALWAYS HAVE DONE.

quote:

Togo workers bring the food to the car,

Not if you choose to not have it delivered to your car IDIOT! Where are you from? Seriously, every single time me and my husband have gotten to-go orders anywhere such as Applebee's, we just go inside to pick it up. You *DO* have that option IDIOT! Were you born under a rock?

I have NEVER been SO LAZY to get it delivered to my car except for Sonic Drive-in since they are literately there to do just that sort of forcing you to have to get it delivered to your car for the most part in general at most Sonic Drive-ins if you chose to eat there. As far as non-fast food goes, I have *NEVER* gotten a to-go order delivered to my car. I will *NEVER* choose to do that. Reasons, one if the order is wrong which is a HUGE majority of the times, it can't get fixed as easily or fast. Two, why not save money by just getting up to get it? Three, if it's raining, your car and food get wet even more so. Four if it's not raining, it still takes longer for the person to run it to you than for you to go in yourself honestly. Five, again, WHY be so lazy?

quote:

Wow, I can't even remember how many times I went into the kitchen multiple times to get take-out customers extra ketchup, napkins, forks, straws, butter, etc.

You aren't bringing it to my car though. I am going inside to pick up my order IDIOT!

quote:

Everyone should work in a restaurant for at least six months of their life and you would see things differently from then on.

I worked at a donut shop/diner from 1998-2002 off and on a little over 2yrs worth starting at min. wage with some raises during that time(not much, but there were a few raises, plus tips). I don't agree with tipping for a to-go order. People tipped me for to-go orders, but it made no sense. I didn't do anything more than someone at McDonald's did for them for that to-go order.

I am truly not understanding WHERE do you get that every to-go order *HAS* to have delivery to your car, huh? I NEVER do that.

I have *ALWAYS* went inside to pick up a delivery order.

For example, once I ordered a to-go order from Applebee's, the damn bartender had to go get a condiment I ordered. So my entire meal was made and made me wait for that, WTF? Then they had salt on my fries that you could clearly *SEE* which I said I wanted none. The fries had to be redone. There's NO WAY I would tip for that. Shitty service and I went inside to pick it up, which I am glad I did, it was wrong and it was fixed much quicker than if I didn't go pick it up inside. She had claimed she waited on purpose to get it. I hadn't gotten take-out probably at that time in 5 or so years so and only a few times I did anyway at that Applebee's, so I am pretty sure these people didn't remember who I was, plus this was pre-Katrina even at that time, which the order that was messed up was a couple of years at least after Katrina.

Even if the order would have been correct. What did the bartender do that a McDonald's worker doesn't do for me, huh? NOTHING!

If you would have *READ* anything I said, I said *DELIVERY* such as places like Sonic *SHOULD* get tipped if the order is correct.

Delivery gets tipped just like when you get a pizza delivered to your house same thing, except this is to your car.

I am ****NOT**** talking about delivery! I am talking about *YOU* going inside to pick up the food yourself.

quote:

Togo worker only make slightly more than wait-staff, so by no means are they making 8$/hr.

Doesn't matter what they make if the amount of *WORK* is the same or even LESS. It's not fair if I tip you, but not them for doing the same job or even less work. Think about it....

I see the tip being for a waiter not someone that just hands me foods p

Exactly. They aren't doing anything more than the cashiers do at McDonald's. In fact, at times the McDonald's cashier has done more for me, for real.

I was responding to the post. I said they were my experiences and may not apply to all. I wasn't "hatin'" so there's no need for name calling.

Do you tip at sonic?

I don't eat there but if I did, yes I would tip. I always tip on takeout. Roughly 10%

Looks like you have no way of proving to me that there is more work involved in a pick-up inside to-go order, huh?

As far as name-calling goes, it's because you aren't thinking about in most cases, people go INSIDE to pick up their food. Restaurants that aren't chains definitely don't have car-side-to-go type of service. Even the ones that do, not everyone chooses to want to have to tip just to walk a few feet or so inside to pick up their food.

Even if I was in a wheelchair, I'd still want to save money by just going inside. WHY spend $2 if you can save it by just walking or in the case of a wheelchair person, rolling?
