Has this still not been explained? Coonass was a derogatory term given to cajuns by surrounding cultures. I know older cajuns still take offense to it but younger generations have adopted it as a term of endearment. Similar to black people and the n-word.
That being said, they both talk real funny but cajuns have french influence/accents. I don't know what the excuse is for rednecks.

I'd call the Moonshine guys hillbillies but I guess Redneck works too
Everyone is different though. My dad is from South La. and has only a very slight country accent, almost unnoticeable. My mom was born in Memphis but grew up in Alabama and has more of a country accent which I displayed as a young weedhopper
My country accent is only noticeable when im by myself or out fishing/drinking etc. NONE of my family has ever been 'Redneck'
