There's a big misconception that redneck = white trash, and that isn't the case at all. There is a difference.

I differentiate it by Country and Redneck.
Country is rural and not trashy.
Redneck is generally (but not always) rural and is trashy.

Has this still not been explained? Coonass was a derogatory term given to cajuns by surrounding cultures. I know older cajuns still take offense to it but younger generations have adopted it as a term of endearment. Similar to black people and the n-word.

That being said, they both talk real funny but cajuns have french influence/accents. I don't know what the excuse is for rednecks.

I'd call the Moonshine guys hillbillies but I guess Redneck works too

Everyone is different though. My dad is from South La. and has only a very slight country accent, almost unnoticeable. My mom was born in Memphis but grew up in Alabama and has more of a country accent which I displayed as a young weedhopper

My country accent is only noticeable when im by myself or out fishing/drinking etc. NONE of my family has ever been 'Redneck'

North of I-10 and west of the Calcasieu river is one border.

As soon as you cross the river on Hwy 26 leaving Oberlin the difference in culture hits you like a wall.
