Notice that beginning incline around 2007. That's the new democrat congress. Oh but that's Bush's fault.

No. Ron will forever hold the record for increasing the deficit, in post world war 2 america, it's not even close.

If he'd allowed the Russians to win the cold war you people would have had that to squawk about. Also Reagan's deficit was in protecting the country not destroying it.

Democrat's passed those bills and Pres Bush signed them wholeheartedly with a lot of glee and no remorse for future generations even for his own grand kids.
Yes his fault. Nobody put a gun to his head and forced him to do so.

Wow someone just made the case for higher deficits. I swear this is a turning point in the deficit/debt discussions.
Crazy talk.

And by the time he left he tripled it. No other president can claim that accomplishment. Great job Ronny.

I am trying to remember whether Reagan had an all democratic congress who refused to cut spending. He should have ordered an executive order.

I do know that jobs came back robustly after he somehow got a tax reduction passed.

Bush saw what the dems said was a mandate because they won. I blame him for signing anything you libs have to offer. So you admit its someone fault for signing something that caused the deficit to go up. Very noble of you although anything you all pass hurts the country. Like his father who raised taxes after saying he wouldn't, was told by the lib congress at the time they would cut spending if he agreed to a tax increase. The libs stabbed him in the back. Libs can't be trusted with our lives in this country.

Did you blame him by attending Tea party rallies and holding up signs reading "Taxed Enough Already"? I didn't think so.

Yes I do.
You can complain how Democrats tricked or stabbed republican presidents but these people have brains. They aren't sheep. They could have said NO just like they are doing now in Congress.

We will all be happy when it reaches 30 trillion. All those who think everything will be equal will actually see it happen. Except that those who are in the gutters will still be there and all the rest who did everything by the law will be down there to. And all the little libs will sleep happy ever after.

And somehow we didn't see a danger during the Reagan years. If I recall most everyone took advantage of great economic times during those 8 years. Low interest rates and a lot of people had money. So if you think a large deficit works every time then you can have it.

I'm not making a case for large deficits. But it seems to me that you're making a case for Reagan to have a deficit but not for Obama. That's a double standard. On a side note, the economic boom that resulted in the Reagan years were also due in large part to the 8 times he raised taxes. The man had to raise taxes to put some people to work.

Reagan was a net tax cutter

OMG is that what Frank Luntz is teaching people nowadays? The fact remains the man raised taxes with a smile on his face while telling his adoring fans that "I didn't raise taxes". True Reaganesque style.

re: Ronald Reagan explains the debt...

so if i cut taxes in a number of places equaling X and raise taxes in a number of places equaling Y, and X > Y ... what does that make me?

That makes you a liberal pretending to be a conservative. Reagan ran on the mantra that he wouldn't raise taxes but he ended up doing so.

re: Ronald Reagan explains the debt...

if i cut $100 in taxes but raise $90 in taxes in other areas, we have cut a net of $10 in taxes.
come on its not hard math.

Why not just cut $10 instead of pretending you did something grande by cutting $100. It's counter productive and shows hypocrisy.

re: Ronald Reagan explains the debt...

sometimes certain taxes need to be raised or cut to reach maximum efficiency. not all taxes are the same, and its not like we have a single flat tax rate that encompasses everything.

Did you just make a case for raising taxes? You deserve the title of "Mr hating small business". If you were in congress today Rush would do this to you <<<<<<
But I agree we can raise taxes to close the deficits.
