during.bacchus we had a lady infront of our house get smashed in the face with beads and spill her drink... shs started crying. then ten minutes later it happened again.. cried again. I told her.
"maybe you should start paying attention when floats go.by." her husband didnt find that good advice.. told me to.frick off. I told.him when his wife has 2 black eyes he will look really cool
end of story

A lot of time people are getting hit accidentally. I seriously doubt most float riders, including myself, are trying to intentionally hurt people. I'm sure they're exceptions but throwing and catching beads has some inherent risk.

I've been smoked in the face with half of a crawfish sack of beads while looking the other way. The rider then took offense to the fact that I wasn't happy and wanted to fight me  .
I'll throw a lot to family and friends, but I don't see why anyone needs to throw overhand and down at people.

when i was in high school i got hit in the face with a Heineken bottle. the dude threw an entire bag of beads that apparently was meant for a particular person. When i grabbed them he felt that it was his civil duty to correct the situation by humming a beer bottle at my face from his moving float. he had good aim.

Then you've never been to the Thibodaux parade. Most floats are filled with drunk a-holes who are only trying to hurt people with beads. Sometimes it's people they know, sometimes not...and even with the ones they know, often times they're missing them and hitting other spectators. It goes past the point of even being fun.

I got hit in the face with a big bag of beads in monroe a few years ago.. I wasnt even trying to catch shite or pay attention to the float, somebody hummed it pretty fast at me.
I was pissed... I threw it back hard as i could in the direction it came.
Just another reason I hate mardi gras and parades in general.

Houma can get out of hand. Went to two parades there this weekend. Had a ton of fun, but you could clearly see idiots on the floats. People should pay attention or stand the hell back.

On our float we have women and men riding. The women throw short to the people closest to the float and the men throw to the back of the crowd where it is easier for them to see you throw and react
People get hurt when you throw hard at them in the front of the crowd and they don't have time to react
If the float passes and they get hit because they aren't looking then that is on them. I only throw under hand to kids

Coming from someone who rides on a float, I went to the Houma parade as a spectator last year and I can say that, without a doubt, excessive force it bead throwing was the norm and not the exception. I actually wanted to yank some of those idiots off the float and let em have it
