Wow, that is crazy. I remember when JPII died, the process of replacing him was quite interesting.

Was it? It seems like just the usual rumor and speculation that goes along with any leadership replacement process (see Coaching Changes board) until the final vote actually occurs. Say, that gives me an idea. Can we ask Chicken for a Papal Changes board?

I wrote his statement near the top of page 2 of the thread. I'm not sure "sick" is the word I would use, but he appears to be noticing the coming onset of senility.

Their is little doubt in church leadership circles that he is either early dementia or Alzheimer's stricken.

I've got the Wikipedia link to the papal prophecies of St. Malachy on the first page. From another link:
quote:
In persecusione extrema sacrae raomanae ecclesiae sedebit Petrus romanus, qui pascet oves in multis tribulationibus; quibus transactis, civitas septi-collis diruetor; et judex tremendous judicabit populum suum.
quote:
In the final persecution of the Holy Roman Church there will reign Petrus Romanus (Peter the Roman), who will feed his flock amid many tribulations; after which the seven-hilled city will be destroyed and the formidable (also translated, “dreaded” or “dreadful”) Judge will judge the people.

They should probably choose someone younger next time.

The prophecy has been much debated and has been "changed" over time. What has stayed consistent is the "destruction of Rome".

I know you are probably joking around but a trip to Rome and Vatican City is an amazing experience if you are into that kind of stuff.

I bet it is something like this. Heck the last pope had to be propped up because of infirmities. It must be something they can't prop up so I would agree it might be Alzheimer's.
