I'm surprised Carnival is even giving a refund. You get what you pay for. Carnival is shite.

I think its obvious that Carnival is terrible about caring for their ships and their passengers...they have just allowed themselves to become the WalMart of cruise lines and they keep their prices so low the masses will not stay away regardless....

All it is going to take is one upset stomach and the whole ship will have the squirts. You'll be able to hear it sloshing around in there as they tow it in. The only cruise i would ever consider is one of those river cruises in Europe. Every time I've heard someone talk about their cruise, they've been trashy as frick. No thanks.

They are still onboard? Nearly 4 full days under tow?
quote:
The ship left Galveston, Texas, for a four-day cruise last Thursday with 3,143 passengers and 1,086 crew members. The ship was about 150 miles off Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula on Sunday when an engine room fire knocked out its primary power source, crippling its water and plumbing systems and leaving it adrift on only a backup power. No one was injured in the fire, but Carnival spokeswoman Joyce Oliva said Tuesday that a passenger with a pre-existing medical condition was taken off the ship as a precaution. Everyone else likely will have to remain onboard until the ship reaches Mobile, Ala., which is expected to happen Thursday, weather permitting.
I bet those onboard are reaaal happy.

We flew into San Juan for a 7-day cruise on Princess. Flying out of the country to embark on your cruise will remove 95% of the trash.

Mobile to Galveston will be on the order of 11+ hours on a bus.

oh frick that, they could at least charter a fricking plane for their passengers. shows you what Carnival thinks about the average passenger.... A fricking 11 hour bus ride AFTER being stranded on that cesspool of a ship for several days? LOL

Looks like they are flying them back if they are willing to wait until Friday:
quote:
If all goes as scheduled and tugboats nudge the ship into port in Mobile Thursday, Alabama Cruise Terminal general manager Sheila Gurganus said, the disembarking passengers will be met by a medical triage center and extra security in case they need it. The cruise line said it has been busily making arrangements for the ship's passengers when they reach the shore. More than 1,500 hotel rooms have been reserved in Mobile and New Orleans and more than 20 chartered flights have been booked to fly passengers back to Houston Friday after they have had a chance to rest, Cahill said. For those wishing to get home sooner, the company is organizing charter buses to Houston and Galveston.

Still very shitty. The cruise was 150 miles off the Yucatan Peninsula when it was stranded and they decide to tow it 500 miles to Mobile?

If I would have been on that ship a life boat would be missing and the coast guard would be looking for the distress signal.

When the engines went down thats where it was. By the time the tugboat got there to tow them they drifted 90 miles north. Since the currents were running towards Mobile and they had 900 passengers without passports on board they decided to tow it to Mobile. The time to get to Yucatan was only 12 hours than going to Mobile.

Anyone know how these boats generate power? At first I just assumed that the boat would still have power and be fine, just couldn't move. I wonder if they generate off of the main engines, or if the fire was big enough to take down 2 different systems.

I have no idea. Says they have power but just not enough. Also the system that keeps the ship stable has failed and people feel the shipping leaning at times.
