RvP has nothing to do with how poor the rest of the top teams in England are this season.

I would say that's pretty accurate. more importantly it was RVP staying healthy. we knew he was this caliber of player but has never avoided injury remotely like this season. When they made that transfer I was pretty confident that he would be a bust like most others. How wrong we were. He single handedly turned the tide of the derby. With RVP in the mix rooney has adapted very well to his supporting role. Today he was as far back as the by line and all over the place. As a whole, united has avoided many new injuries and are deep enough to compete for a treble. City's lack of midfield quality has become apparent as silva hasn't had a stellar season and barry's mistakes have been costly. The incoming transfers of rodwell and sinclair have proved to be little more than satisfying the homegrown player requirement, which is nearly as dumb as FFP. It didn't help that we had to deal with the fricking ACON. Nasri has been completely ineffective. The only positive that has come out of this season is getting balotelli out of the dressing room and finding nastasic who could be an important CB in the future. TBH I think mancini might have lost this dressing room and I think he will be replaced.

that's fair to say. Chelsea is suffering majorly from the torres debacle as well as the ill timed firing of de mateo. City's problems are as listed above. Liverpool isn't there yet, but are closer to getting that terrible transfer window behind them. Spurs and everton were never contenders.

Yeah, United's injury troubles were all at the beginning of the season. We've been lucky for the most part. Haven't really had multiple lengthy injuries at the same time.

how did united manage to turn it around? i feel like at the beginning of the season everyone was worried about their central midfield and defensive woes

Those are still issues, though they have gotten better. Everyone else is just so bad.

They still suck, just the rest of the EPL sucks more. The EPL is really down this year.

fair point, seems like a lot of their wins have just been grinders where their pure talent prevails over 90 minutes. i dont watch many of their matches though.

RvP and Rooney meshed much quicker and better than anyone expected. Bringing Rooney back to more of a CAM position worked best for both. In the central midfield, Cleverley made the transition from good young rotation piece to a first-choice starter. Defensively, the older guys got healthy and basically have done just enough to keep us outscoring the other guys. Smalling and Jones are developing, but make some big mistakes from time to time. De Gea is prone to give up an easy one. We're dominating because everyone else is down, really. Otherwise it'd be a tight race.

Cleverley has stayed healthy, and while they have had some injury problems at center back, Rafael and Evra have played out of their minds, providing width as well. Most of their problems in the center of midfield were because neither ancient Scholes nor Michael Carrick were going to push forward.

shame kagawa has struggled for fitness. i think he's pretty electric, i dont want him to end up like sahin. someone who appears to be a product of klopps system. a very good product and a very good system, but nonetheless he hasn't been able to replicate anything like what he's done at dortmund.

what about giggs? dude has put in a lot of good minutes for being 39 and scored his first of the season today. As much as I don't like the guy you have to admire that he has scored in 20 straight seasons.

I need a sarcasm font. But in all seriousness, ManU would certainly be closer to the pack without RvP. It's just a really mediocre year overall in the EPL.

I think United draws at Madrid this week, setting up a winner-take-all at OT.
