Very true. The main girl really embodies the type of person I hate most in the world, in every aspect.

i nearly tweeted something a long the lines of this article.

screw it, I'm gonna watch last night's episode.

It's like, well, since she did manage to bag a guy like Joshua, then she should be so grateful that she should be simultaneously sucking his dick and stroking his ego just for the opportunity to be with him.
yes, she should

For example: Jessa is just as much of a shite head as Hannah, but nobody questioned her venture capitalist's husband's interest in her unemployed, entitled arse.
i did

But this is the brilliance of this otherwise kind of boring episode: the discourse it's sparked. It's not enough to simply acknowledge that, like the Slate guys, you're prejudiced against the idea of a physically imperfect woman being able to enchant a hunk like Joshua.
she's not "physically imperfect." she's fat, ugly, and lacks basically all positive characteristics of a person
quote:
like how value is assigned to a woman by how she looks. And how that valuation determines the level of bullshite that people will tolerate from her.

same goes for males
nobody said adam's crazy arse was too hot for
that's life

For me, the reaction to "One Man's Trash" was more interesting than the actual episode.
and this kind of pseudo-intellectual commentary is what they're left with to defend the show?
"well the show sucks and is unrealistic, boring, cliched, and uninteresting, but it creates a reaction"
like i said immediately after i watched last night

Esquire Article
i remember saying the same thing...esp when she was leaving and a didn't have her iphone. in season 1 that was like the thing shown 2nd most on the show behind hannah
quote:
The next morning, she wakes up alone, makes the bed, and takes out his trash so that that part of the story arc can come full circle. The bigger issue here is that Hannah clearly has no friends who care about her. Two days she's been gone, and no one's gotten worried. No one's texted or called. She probably hasn't even Instagrammed.

My dislike of the episode had less to do with the nudity and more to do with the fact that it moved the show nowhere.
Its HBO, we only get a handful of these things per season and we wasted an episode on her random hookup. Im willing to suspend disbelief and go along with their hookup, but what was the point? Why did we need a whole episode to show it? There's already a built in understanding that the people on the show aren't truly "happy"
Why no follow up on any of the other 3, more interesting, relationship dramas the show really moved forward last week? And a month later, still no follow up on the ex boyfriend she basically had locked up.

It's probably every ugly girl's fantasy that she got to play out.

am I think only one that's getting really tired of seeing Hannah nude?
Wish she would share the wealth on the nude scenes.

hannah-centric episode. internal dialogue. development of the main character
making those societal points and getting press about it

Nothing like when Hannah has a huge pity party.

Look, I get that you are brave to show how comfortable you are with your unattractive body. That is no reason to be egregious with the nudity.
That's actually the most annoying part of this show. I think that Dunham is talented and has some good ideas.
But the nudity really is egregious and offensive at this point. And the funny thing is, if it was a show about and written by some smoking hot 10 who chose to be naked all time, Hannah and people of her ilk would blast it as shamelessly selling their sexuality for publicity and ratings.
But because she's not pleasant to look at we're supposed to revere her as some brave artist who is comfortable in her own skin.
Hey, emos, it can be scary and uncomfortable for attractive people to get naked on screen too.
You don't get more points just because you're unhealthy.
That's my biggest gripe. The hypocrisy of those types who claim to be so open minded and accepting but they are actually the most judgemental people out there.
As for the episode, it was terrible, and I actually enjoy the show usually. It was trying way too hard to be deep, when in fact it was shallow as hell.
The only true moment of the whole episode was when this guy who she should be thanking her lucky stars even spoke to her opened up to her about some awkward encounter he had as a kid when he let some other guy jerk him off and she totally disregarded him and blew it off as insignificant compared to her own dumbass ramblings then lashed out at him for not sharing with her.
That's the judgemental part coming out as well. Just cause this guy is good looking and rich she thinks he can't have problems or that his problems aren't as valid or important as hers.
She is self absorbed to the point of being oblivious.
Truly the voice of her generation, which is horrifyingly tragic.

I finally watched the episode, and I have to say, I don't understand what the big deal is. Is Hannah attractive? **** no. Is my favorite aspect of the show seeing her naked? Again, no. But it's also not "offensive," "disturbing," or any other ridiculous adjectives people want to throw out there. So the **** what if she's not an OT10, neither are most people. You have to wonder if the nudity wasn't intentionally written in there as a symbolic middle-finger to her detractors; if that's the case, you guys that are doing exactly what she wants. Just food for thought.
As for the rest of the episode, what about it was atypical for Hannah? She's self-centered and self-loathing at the same time -- nearly every character in the show has accused her of such at some point. She runs roughshod over a guy who would objectively be considered more attractive than her, yet he is interested in her -- gee, that's about par for the course, isn't it? This was pretty much standard fare for the show, though it was more Hannah-centric than most episodes.

Great post and analysis of the episode.

I'm willfully playing devil's advocate here, because I don't entirely disagree...
But thus far in ssn 2 Hannah has broken up with her serious BF, more or less ended her friendship with her closest friend (Marnie), as well as finally found a job that actually supports her talents (the blogging gig).
These are all statements of "independence." It's her "proof" that she doesn't need love or her old friends... she's going to make it.
Now she can do whatever she wants, including hook up with some guy who is out of her league (wealthy, hot, intelligent, independent). Except... that doesn't satisfy her at all. She's still deeply unhappy, selfish, emotional, etc.
If there was a "point" I think it was that Hannah isn't as self-acutalized as she possibly thought she was.

it pretty much is...especially how it's so gratuitous and common. there is no need for it...seriously. if there was a show about a hot arse fricking bitch, as stated earlier, there wouldn't be a need for her to be naked in every episode, either
the show's continued reliance on trolling people in showing her naked all the time shows a horrible flaw in the series. it's basically like they created an urkel/sheldon character due to the popularity of discussing her nudity, but instead of using a person it's name is "fat tummy and ugly titties"
how is that a sign of good writing? it's not
quote:
You have to wonder if the nudity wasn't intentionally written in there as a symbolic middle-finger to her detractors;
one middle finger was enough. relying on it every episode, and writing an entire episode to troll people about it, is a bit excessive. again, her nudity is urkel

so the worst girl in the world shows she's the worst girl in the world AND selfishly writes an episode completely centered around herself. dunham is as egositical and retarded as hannah, and i still don't see why we're supposed to like a show with such horrible and flat characters
this episode only really works if it was an "it was all a dream" episode, which is even worse than relying on an urkel
