Tate from MInden vs. Lauron Ambrose from Neville game featured two top running backs in south....shame Ambrose broke his leg later that year...Tate was good player

I would argue with anyone on this. Dalton Hilliard was a better HS RB than Kenny Hilliard. Patterson had nothing at the time except Dalton. Kenny played with more talent in more of a spread set. Dalton literally carried his team to the finals against John Curtis. I know people will look at stats, but Dalton was more polished in high school. Kenny's dad, Curtis, was the hardest to tackle of them all. Johnny Hector is definitely top 5. He played in the highest classification at the time. He made the position look very easy, not to mention he was chiseled like a freak.

Josh Reed was one of the best HS RBs I've ever seen at Rayne, and Cecilia's Jamaican Dartez was phenomenal. I can also remember Garland Jean Batiste from St. Martinville. Back in my HS days, I remember Melvin Adams from Jennings and Mike January from Westlake. Btw, if Lawrence Nixon had played 4 years under Matt Viator in Jennings, he would hold the rushing record. He only played 2 seasons because he was a basketball phenom early on.

Can we get a list with the best running backs from each decade? That would be interesting to see and a bit easier to rank them.

Derrick Beavers & Ernest Lazard, Carencro - Part of the Faulk backfield. These guys were considered on par with Faulk when they beat Neville for the state title. Joe Simon, VC - something like 48 touchdowns and 2800 yards his senior year and usually didn't see the field in the 2nd half. I think he had 7 or 8 TD's in one playoff game.

Dwight Walker from East Jefferson was really good, went to Nicholls and played for the Browns for a few years.

Where is Charles Alexander? Charles Alexander was a four-year letterwinner on the LSU Tigers football team. He was selected as a first-team All-American and All-SEC in 1977 and 1978. In 1977 he was selected the SEC Most Valuable Player by the Nashville Banner. Alexander set nine SEC records, tied one and set 27 LSU records during his college career. He still holds the LSU records for most rushes in a game (43), most yards in a season (1,686) and most yards gained per game in a season (153.3).[2] Alexander set two Sun Bowl rushing records, carrying 31 times for 197 yards, as he won Offensive Player of the Game honors in the 1977 Sun Bowl. Despite Alexander's efforts, LSU fell to Stanford 24-14. He played his last game as a Tiger in the 1978 Liberty Bowl. Alexander gained 133 yards on 24 carries in the 20-15 loss to Missouri. In 1989, Alexander was inducted into the LSU Athletic Hall of Fame.

I don't know about high school and college but Marshall Faulk is the best running back on that list as a pro. That dude was a nightmare to defend. He was a great runner and could have played receiver in the NFL. He was a unbelievable. One of the most dangerous and complete backs in NFL history. He had more catches than 17 Hall of Fame receivers. He is the best running back in LA history in terms of doing it at the highest level.
In HS he actually looked much better as a DB than RB his carver teams were awful... and he had 3 people on him as soon as he got the ball..... Although one of the state's most successful coaches after his team beat carver 60 something to 6... even said.. he was the best player on the field.....and he had 7 d 1 signees that year.
