Is it The Mist? Chinatown? Vertigo?

I don't know about "F'ed up," but as sad endings go, my vote will always be this.

The Candy Snatchers.

Saw it once 25 years ago, it still haunts me to this day. It's really not any more fricked up than a lot of the twisted stuff you see in today's horror movies, but I was so young when I saw it that it really freaked me out.

The Mist was so messed up, I mean if he would have just waited like a minute and a half they all would have lived. I heard the book had a different ending though. I don't know if it was better or not though.

The Wizard of Oz

Rather than stay in a colorful world of magic and fun, Dorothy chooses to return to dull, dirty B&W Kansas and live on a rundown farm with her nagging bitch aunt, drunken uncle, and three moronic drifter farmhands

Vertigo and Chinatown are both GREAT choices. In Vertigo when the movie ends with Stewart just standing up there in tower with the bells sounding I went all Nancy Kerrigan in this B...WWWHHYYYYYYYYY?!?! Citizen Kane's ending is pretty dark as well...the sled being thrown in the fire and the secret forever dying with him.

SPOILERS below

The first movie that came to mind for me was Repulsion. The whole movie was "f-ed up" but the ending was really twisted. The sister and her boyfriend getting home from their vacation to find two dead people in the apartment and Carol laying under the bed in a lifeless state. Zooming in on her in the old family picture the movie ends.

Incendies. Seriously, watch that movie. The ending will make your jaw drop. It's incredibly depressing.

Is Oldboy worth the watch? Is it a Requiem type (fricked up and depressing the entire time) or a suspenseful movie with a stunner ending?

For those who said Requiem had an f-ed up ending (it absolutely did) I recommend Pi. Watching it you definitely anticipate a bad ending and Aronofsky does not let you down.

A movie that does have characters that you are rooting for is Blow-Out. This movie has a sad but visually stunning ending. It is a beautiful film. De Palma's best IMO.
