Just saw on the news that the chief could not make any personnel decisions w/o first clearing it with the mayor's office.

I have to laugh at the idiots indicating he was doing a good job. If your definition of a good job is trying to solve violent crime, murders, and the such with dwi check points and inspection stickers check points and assigning 4 cops daily to write seat belt tickets and MIPs to college students then you got your man.

This man conducted a dwi checkpoint adjacent to the river center downtown after the taste of tiger tailgating event and a large rodeo and then got on the news to defend it. Plenty of people were putting pressure on kip for shite like this.

I have no inside information on why he was fired but I would most likely say it was due to a failure to accomplish the goals for which he was hired

The union B S is a desperate man's attempt to salvage his reputation.

If so, then why did the Advocate article quote 3 BR city councilmen as saying it was the union? Why would they defend a fired police chief against a relatively popular mayor?

...and why is Kip being so evasive about this?

Because those council persons get special treatment . Emails will reveal that they "micromanaged" the chief by making vague complaints about aggressive officers , especially within 70805. In response he transferred these officers and the murder rate sky rocketed thereafter. It will come out.

i know a BR cop. it wasn't the unions

I know a cop as well and he said it WAS the unions who got him fired.

He liked LeDuff as a person but said he was too nice to be an effective Chief. White on the other hand was tough but fair and was making a difference in crime the only problem is in doing so he made union people actually work and that didn't go over to well. They complained to Kip and Kip fired him. I am sure they have some reason but basically it's because he didn't bow down to union bosses....

The good old boy crowd wants the status quo. White wanted to change some things and they didn't like it. Boom, white is gone.

Holden took the side of the status quo, let's see if he appoints an outsider as chief or elevates someone from inside the dept.

re: Why was Dewayne White fired?

You're so wrong it isn't even funny. The good ole boy network is always alive and well. It never goes away. There will always be a clique at the top. Chief White promoted his friends and allies to top positions. Carl Dabadie, who is now the acting chief, was one of White's buddies back in his early days of the BRPD. White also hired his godson Bickham from another agency. Then quickly moved him to highly sought after positions without him first putting in the required time in the streets before being moved. Plus he was hired at a higher pay rate than at the time no officer ever received. So the good ole boy network is alive and well. The Dewayne White network.

I'm wrong, but you just outlined why I was exactly right.

The guys in the dept. pre-White expected the best positions and to move up. White came in and made changes putting in his people. The good old boy crowd got mad. Boom, White is fired.

Your reply proved my point, thanks.

re: Why was Dewayne White fired?

What do you think the good ole boy networks is?

" A series of contacts (relatives, friends, friends of friends, ect.) who are willing to help accomplish a task. Usually each contact has some sort of specialty that makes them beneficial to a specific task. Many Good 'Ol Boy Networks operate on a favor system."

Let me emphasize the last sentence.

And White served less than 2 years, it's obvious that a much larger network had been established long before he took the job. White got in their way, and tried to do things with his people. The good ole boy network was too strong and White lost.

BTW, No where have I stated White was right, did a good job, or anything of the sort. All I did was stated why he got fired.

FWIW, I think the criminals, specifically the gangs and drug lords have run over the police and White has not changed that opinion of mine at all.

I think Holden neglected the dept. and that neglect is illustrated by the lack of an academy each and every year to train new people. But that's another story.

Sort of. It's was that way long before White, Leduff and Englade. The media, social networking, video cameras everywhere and good ole politics made it so. Police have to kiss arse these days on the street. They're more afraid of the administration than they are of the street.

We agree buddy.
