Watching an interview with him on CNN. Face lifts, fake teeth, MONSTROUS ego and opinion of himself. Can someone explain to me how he became so famous? Does anyone think he's actually good at his job? Or is he simply famous because he's been around so long?

He must want to be the next Dick Clark - yes he is 60 - and that's plastic surgery.

How did he become famous?

Oh, I don't know, he was the top announcer/pregame guy on the NFL and baseball in the 80's.

You don't have to like him personally but he is without question one of if not the best in the business.

He is widely considered one of the best at his profession. He doesn't bother me.

I don't agree with his politics and he's had a bunch of work done -- you left off that he wears a rug -- but he is indisputably one of the greatest sportscasters of all time

I could listen to him bloviate for hours before I listen to Stephen A. for 30 seconds.

The fact of the matter is everyone hates him now because of what he said after the Javon Teacher incident on SNF. It is ridiculous. He is great at his job. Period. I hold nothing against him.

He is a guest on MLB network sometimes and he has an encyclopedic knowledge of the history of baseball. I enjoy him when he's talking baseball.

All Costas did during his gun story was quote Jason Whitlock; he didn't even take a side, he was just trying to promote a discussion. People hear what they want to hear though.

You can negatively critique any sportscaster here, as long as its not Gus Johnson or Scott Van Pelt.

This is where I never have liked him. He gets sanctimonious talking about the purity of baseball to the point I want to puke.

He wanted the Cards gig so bad in the 90's it killed him. They had Jack, George Grande, and Joe as the PBP guys. When Jack retired and it went to George for a year then Joe it was bad.

I'm not huge Costas fan, but he is very good at developing a narrative for the game. I wished he would replace Michaels in the booth. I feel Al thinks he is smarter than coaches and bigger than the game.

True, a lot of people's disdain for him crystallized around the gun thing. However, I think he does deserve some legit criticism. He tends to lay the cerebral on too thick. A little of that goes a long, long way. Not everything in sports is a microcosm of society. Sometimes it's just an entertaining diversion. And he's still stuck in the era when baseball was the #1 sport in America.
