re: Police brutality story Army vs Marine Cop

I hate it when guys spout off about being a soldier as if it entitled them to some sort of special status when off post. Makes us all look bad. That being said fat arse cop knew he could sucker punch a kid that he had 50 lbs on. Every day I lose more and more respect for cops. This frick should be working mall security now seeing as he is dumb enough to lie on his own report while wearing a camera. I wish one would try this shite on me, beat my arse go ahead. Ill be laughing all the way to the bank.

That kneel-down-on-the-chest move he did to the kid has killed people when bar bouncers used it on bourbon street.

it is a pretty retarded thing to do - the kid probably weighed 160 pounds. The officer looked like he was easily 250 pounds

Kid was being confrontational with a police officer. I don't blame the cop.

You're an idiot. Don't be "confrontational" with a cop or you are responsible for any acts of physical violence he then uses against you, with the full legitimacy of the state behind him. Get the frick out of here.

You see this in every branch of the military from the young guys. They confuse pride with a sense of entitlement. It wears off and not all do it, but it definitely exist across all branches.

I just watched through to the end and found out the cop is a rapper. In light of this new evidence I change my mind and think he deserves to be prosecuted.

Are there a lot Emos in the Army now? Emo Divisions? Elite Emo squads?

I'd try to walk a day in one of their shoes before making comments like this. A lot of these young men are coming back from over seas deployment with some serious psychological and emotional trauma that will effect them in ways you and I could never understand for the rest of their lives.

The cop stepped up, not the kid. The kid felt insulted by the cops nonchalantness in taking 45 minutes to get there and then his remarks. I would have been pissed too.

The cop was in the wrong here 100%. He escalated the situation all on his own when it is his JOB to diffuse it instead. He stuck his knee in his chest and put his weight on him, not allowing the kid to breathe, just so he could basically make an Army brat bow down to his Marine "superiority". Then he accused him of faking it for the camera to try to keep himself out of trouble.

frick that guy.

I think you're pretty off base here. Just because someone is "confrontational" with a cop it doesn't mean they are posing a real threat to the officers or community. If you are posing an actual threat, then cops are justified in using reasonable force. If someone is being only confrontational or disrespectful then remember that person pays your salary and it is part of your job to protect and serve the community.

I don't automatically respect cops just because they are cops, that doesn't mean I am disrespectful in return I expect them not to be disrespectful towards me. When cops think that just because they have a badge, they can belittle citizens, there is a huge problem. The sad truth is that a portion (not all) of the police force is not as educated or as successful as the professional middle class in America. Once given the slightest bit of power over those that have surpassed them in other areas of life, some abuse it.

All that being said, everyone with a smidgen of intelligence should realize that you shouldn't ever give cops any excuse to get physical with you. Act like a normal adult because you don't know if the cop you are dealing with is an educated person who chose the career for the right reasons or a power hungry high school dropout trying to assert dominance over anyone possible.

This military leader will tell you that this soldier could have handled this situation a little batter, but that does not excuse his ridiculous treatment at the hands of the local Barney Fifes......

Not quite sure if you agreeing or not...but we are basically saying the same thing.

Looks like this fine young American has had some bad luck with cops.

re: Police brutality story Army vs Marine Cop

The kids soldier comment was out of line, doesn't make a shite of difference. However, complaining that it took the lazy bastards 45 minutes to get to the call was something I would have said myself. NO, not all Marines are a-holes, have a ton of close friends that are current or former Marines. Some of them do have that cocky shithead attitude but so did a ton of guys I was in Ranger battalion with. If you're an a-hole, you're going to be an a-hole no matter if you were a SEAL or a boy-scout.

This is an example of how comments over an internet medium can get lost in translation. You interpreted my comment in the exact OPPOSITE manner in which it was intended.

Read it again and I think you will find that we are rather in agreement.

Yes, the cop was in the wrong, I want to make that part clear. But that dude was really being a bitch and instigating it.

Exactly, the got in his face and made the issue of "it took yall 45 minutes to get here" bigger than whatever he apparently called them for.
